Kay Wiggins Beal, surrounded by the love and prayers of family and friends, passed from this life and into the arms of Jesus on July 20, 2013. She was only 78 years young. Kay was born on November 22, 1934 in Lamesa, TX. She is survived by her brother Kirk Douglas Wiggins of Estes Park, CO. Her faith was passed down to her by her parents Blaine Douglas Wiggins and Elizabeth Dee Peterson who are celebrating with her in heaven.
Kay graduated from Lamesa High School in 1953 where she had the honor of being the Football Queen, the Basketball Sweetheart, and the Drum Major for the band. She continued her education at Southern Methodist University and was a proud member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Kay majored in vocal music and graduated from SMU in 1957. She married Tommy Beal in June of that same year.
Her early years in Dallas were spent singing in the Dallas Opera Chorus and the Oak Lawn Methodist Church choir, and raising her young children. In 1968, the family moved to Houston and Kay once again shared her talents by singing in the Houston Opera Chorus. She was a regularly featured soloist in the Chancel Choir at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. She was a member of The Classics singing group that performed throughout the city. Kay was a beloved piano teacher and passed down her love of music to many. Through the years, she worked for Austin Exploration followed by Southwestern Life/4Texas Insurance Company and was a blessing to both customers and coworkers alike.
In 2004, Kay moved back to the Dallas area to be closer to her family. She was a member of Covenant Church of Carrollton and served in the choir and as a Greeter on Sunday mornings. She taught piano at Carrollton Christian Academy and also in her home. Through her music, she influenced and encouraged many and everyone will miss Ms. Kay.
Kay is survived and cherished by her son Brannin Beal and his wife Julie; and by her daughter Whitney Beal Applegate and her husband Doc. Kay also has four treasured grandchildren who filled her life with joy; Ethan and Evan Beal, and Sydney and Jack Applegate. Kay was beloved by all who came to know her and her life was made rich by a multitude of friends.
A Service of Celebration for a life well-lived will be held at Covenant Church of Carrollton on Friday, August 16th at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a tribute offering to your favorite ministry that carries the Gospel message to the world.
