Keith was the oldest child of three. He grew up with one younger brother, Lyle and one younger sister, Kathryn. Growing up in Hooper, Nebraska, he worked hard on the family farm from a very young age. As the oldest son, Keith milked the cows every day and helped his dad manage the farm.
He attended a one room schoolhouse and there was only one other child in his grade. Keith was very smart, and it didn't take him long to learn and master his lessons. Once he finished his lessons, he would read encyclopedias to learn more while he waited for the other student to finish. He attended Uehling High School and graduated in 1967. His high school class consisted of 14 students, and therefore, the only team they could form was the varsity basketball team. Keith was part of the team that went all the way to state during his senior year. After graduating high school, he received an appointment to the United States Military Academy and graduated in 1971. He spent 6 and 1/2 years in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Captain. After he resigned his commission, he took a job at First Wisconsin National Bank in their Executive Training Program. While working at First Wisconsin in Training and Development, he received his master’s degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Keith worked in customer relationship management, training and development in the banking industry, working primarily with executives in large and small banks both in the U.S. and abroad for more than thirty years. He was also a member of All Saints Catholic Church for 25 years and President of Golden Saints.
Keith met Barbara Mary Bambrick the last weekend in February 1970 at a mixer at West Point. On February 5, 1972, they were united in holy matrimony at the Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity at West Point. Even though in many ways they were opposites, they forged a bond and made it work for 47 years. Together they welcomed Lorna Catherine and Anna Christine in Fort Benning, GA on October 24, 1975; followed by John Keith in Milwaukee, WI on October 4, 1978. Keith was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family. He was always supportive of any decisions they made. He was friendly, fun loving, helpful, honest, kind and always a patient listener.
He loved learning to fly and he also loved learning to sail. In Texas, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle on country roads in the early morning hours. He even dabbled in archery. His favorite thing in life was spending quality time with his wife, Barbara. He will be greatly missed by many friends and family.
Keith is survived by his wife, Barbara Von Seggern; daughter Lorna Von Seggern Caputo; daughter Anna Von Seggern Rees; son-in-law Gene Rees; son John Von Seggern; and daughter-in-law Lynsey Von Seggern; granddaughter Caitlyn Caputo, grandsons Owen and Eliot Rees, granddaughters Clara and Alice Von Seggern and grandson Simon Von Seggern.
