She graduated in 1975 from Warren Central High School, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. where she excelled in academics, perfected the piano, organ and other arts. She starred in numerous theatrical productions and was an accomplished musician at school and church.
She attended Mississippi University for Women and was a Silhouette. She continued her education, receiving her BSN nursing degree at the University of Mississippi Medical School in Jackson, Mississippi.
In 1981, she married Thomas Michael Shivers residing first in Memphis, Tennessee and then later in Mandeville, Louisiana. In 1987 she and Tom welcomed their son, Matthew Collins Shivers into the world. Matthew was the light of her life. The family moved to Texas in 1989.
Lisa worked as a registered nurse in various capacities in Jackson, Memphis, New Orleans and Dallas, most recently with the Carrolton – Farmers Branch Independent School District. Lisa was respected by her colleagues, admired by her patients and recognized for her participation in the Jesuit Women’s Auxiliary and numerous civic outreach programs.
Lisa had a passion for cooking, wine and entertaining. An epicurean, she was quick to discuss restaurants, enjoyed finding and sharing recipes, and loved cooking for family and friends.
On Saturday, September 16, 2017, Lisa suffered a stroke and was hospitalized. She died peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2017 and now resides in the presence of our Lord.
Lisa is survived by her husband Thomas Michael Shivers, son Matthew Collins Shivers of Denver, CO, her parents Eugene Franklin Lamb and Elsie Fallot Lamb of Daphne, AL; brothers Jeff Lamb and wife Lisa of Jackson, MS (children Stewart Lamb, wife Sarah and daughter Katherine Louise of Oxford, MS; Louise McGinnis Lamb Adams, husband Michael Murry Adams of Roanoke, VA) and Russell Hill Lamb of Cleveland, OH (children Camille Lena Hansen Lamb and Dylan Hill Hansen Lamb).
The family extends its gratitude to Carol Ebeling, the CFBISD nursing and administrative staff, and the Jesuit Women’s Auxiliary.
Visitation will be held at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 8011 Frankford Road, Dallas, Texas 75252 on Thursday, October 12th from 5:30 - 8PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Rita Catholic Church, 12521 Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas 75244 on Friday, October 13th at 11:00AM.
