Louie H. Mendoza, 70, of Hebron, Kentucky, formerly of San Antonio, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023. He was born on September 29, 1952, in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, to the late Lucio S. & Connie H. Mendoza. Louie was raised in San Antonio. His fondest memories as a young child were playing with his red truck and marbles. Louie was a 1970 graduate of Jefferson High School, where he was in the Army ROTC. He then earned his Associate’s Degree from San Antonio College. After graduation, Louie went to proudly serve our country in the United States Army. Louie spent his career in healthcare – first as a surgical technologist, where he was the first male to perform open heart surgery at the VA hospital in San Antonio. He ended his career after many years working in healthcare insurance.
In 1997, Louie met his future wife, Rosie Solis. They developed a wonderful friendship that eventually turned into a beautiful romance. They married on December 19, 2009 and moved to Dallas shortly after. Louie was a devoted husband and father, who cherished his family above everything else. Time spent with them was what he enjoyed the most, and he will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Louie had a larger than life personality and lit up a room when he entered it. His presence was noticed and steadfast. Joy radiated from him with a constant smile on his face and happy demeanor. He had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed making others laugh – even at his own expense, and told the best dad jokes. Louie had a generous spirit and loved helping others. He volunteered a lot over the years when his daughter, Martha, was in school. He found it rewarding to give of himself and his time and enjoyed the fellowship and fun while helping out. Louie was devoted to the Catholic faith. He enjoyed being involved in the men’s group, Christ Renews His Parish and the Welcome Retreats over the years, which renewed his faith and allowed for time of prayer and reflection, which he took very seriously.
In addition to his parents, Louie was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred H. Mendoza; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosalva Mendoza; daughter, Martha Alejandra Guerra of Carrollton, Texas; sister, Lydia Mendoza Banuelos of San Antonio, Texas; two nephews, Captain Mathew A. (Captain Sabrina) Fuentes of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Charles A. (Vanessa A.) Fuentes of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous other relatives.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 from 8:00am-10:00am at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, Dallas, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30am at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, 1705 E. Peters Colony Rd., Carrollton, TX 75007, with Father Sushil Tudu. Burial with military honors will be held at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2:00pm that afternoon.
