Florence Lucie Pitard Bellew died December 16 with her family by her side. She was born in El Dorado, AR on April 18, 1942 to the late Henry Prados and Mary Cecilia Pitard. She was married to the late Richard W. Bellew Jr. in 1965. They spent the first 16 years of marriage in New Orleans. In 1981, the Bellew family moved to Dallas. Lucie always had a strong desire to give to her church and civic communities both through charity and activism. Lucie was a lifetime member of the D.A.R. A proponent of well planned city development, she began by forming a homeowner association for her Far North Dallas neighborhood. She went on to found what is now called the North Dallas Neighborhood Alliance which compromises over 130 HOA’s. She also served as the NDNA liaison to Texas Neighborhoods Together, a statewide umbrella organization of HOA’s. Lucie represented District 12 for 10 years on the City of Dallas Library Board. She was a charter member of the Renner Frankford Library Friends. Lucie was an active member of St. Marks the Evangelist in Plano since 1981. She served in youth education, compassion ministry and Eucharistic ministry. She founded a mobility mission to collect medical assistance devices to provide for the community as needed. Lucie and Dick served in many leadership positions in the faith based marriage ministry Retrovaille in the local and international communities. Lucie moved to Christus St. Joseph’s Village in Coppell in 2010 and was promptly elected to the resident’s council. She found many new friends and a very happy community to live her final days. Lucie is survived by three children: Richard W. Bellew III of Miami Beach, FL, Mary Catherine Gaisbauer of Battle Ground, IN, and Lisa Anne “Analis” Hendry of Bee Cave, TX and their respective spouses: Alexander Serrud, Brian, and Graham and her three grandchildren: Michael, Nicole, and Jessica Gaisbauer.
