Maria Isabel Hernandez, affectionately known to all who loved her as "Chabelita," passed away peacefully after reaching a remarkable milestone—celebrating her 100th birthday surrounded by the family she cherished most.
Born in Astilleros, Coahuila, Mexico, Chabelita grew up with a deeply loving and caring heart, traits that defined her relationship with her siblings and set the foundation for the century of warmth she brought into the world. In her working years, she was a dedicated employee at Krier Canning Company, but her true life’s work and greatest joy was always found within her home and family.
A woman of generous spirit, incredible warmth, and a subtle perfectionism that showed in everything she touched, Chabelita was happiest when family gathered together. Her favorite moments were simple, cozy, and filled with connection: sitting in a warm spot with a hot cup of coffee, watching the birds, or spending hours carefully crafting beautiful pieces with her knitting and sewing needles. She was also famously a passionate fan of WWE wrestling, and the Green Bay Packers, bringing her characteristic lively energy and fun to every match she watched.
Chabelita is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Esteban Hernandez, and her siblings, Pedro, Jesus, Antonio, and Socorro.
Her enduring legacy of love lives on through her six devoted children: Jorge Hernandez, Miguel Hernandez, Victoria Hernandez, Javier Hernandez, Rene Hernandez, and Hector Hernandez, as well as her extended family and friends who will forever miss her generous heart and gentle presence.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Chabelita’s extraordinary life during the upcoming memorial service on Monday, October 19th, beginning at 2 p.m. at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 President George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, Texas 75252.
