Maxine Gupton Miller

Maxine Gupton Miller, formerly of Edinburg, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014, at her home in Allen, Texas. Max was born in Boswell, Oklahoma, on September 18, 1932. Max moved to Edinburg with her parents, Mac and Seenie Gupton, at an early age and graduated from Edinburg High School in 1951. She attended Pan American College and graduated with a degree in education in 1955. Max started her teaching career at Jefferson Elementary in Edinburg and later taught many years at Victor Fields Elementary in McAllen. She closed out her teaching career in the Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD having taught at Good Elementary and Country Place Elementary. On July 31, 1954, Max married Charley Miller. Max and Charley were a perfect couple-she keeping him on his game, and he taking great pride in making her happy. Maxine is survived by her son, Jeff, of Dallas, and her daughter and son-in-law, Bettepat and Keith Graves of Plano. Also surviving Max are her grandchildren, Caleb Miller of Edmond, Oklahoma; Carley and Tim Winkler of Enid, Oklahoma; and Charley and Kevin Graves of Plano. Maxine was eagerly awaiting the April arrival of her first great-grandchild, Liam Allen Winkler. Other surviving relatives include her brother, John Gupton, of Boerne; a special niece, June Gupton Parks, of Pittsburg; her daughter-in-law, Jean Gash of Enid. Maxine considered as family her daughter’s lifelong friends, Dolly Holmes of San Antonio, and Susan Wallace Cox of Cypress. One of Max’s greatest gifts was the friendships she made throughout her life. She leaves behind dear friends from childhood that she celebrated with at reunions for many years as well as a circle of wonderful friends she celebrated with at a weekly happy hour. A memorial service honoring Max will be held at 5 pm on Friday, March 14, at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home in Plano. Max always loved a party, so to honor her request to celebrate her life accordingly, a reception will be held at the home of Rene Wallace, 120 Rio Grande, Mission, from 2 pm to 4 pm on Saturday, March 22.
