Olga Esperanza Urizar de Serrano, 85, of Frisco, Texas, formerly of Miami, Florida, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023. She was born on March 25, 1938, in Arequipa, Peru, to Francisco & Leonor (Echenique) Urizar. At a young age, Olga learned to play piano and discovered a love for music that would last her a lifetime. She also enjoyed reading, which quickly turned into a love for writing. She became a published author of poetry and other profound work. Olga was most proud of her book, Sentimientos del Alma (Feelings of the Soul), which encompassed a lot of her own feelings and the beautiful soul she leaves behind.
In the early 1960s, Olga met her soulmate, Miguel Serrano. They were truly destined to be together and married in 1966. By the late 1970’s, the Serranos’ decided to start a new legacy in a beautiful place, Miami Beach, Florida where they made it their home by establishing a successful business for many years. Their marriage was steadfast and strong – the kind of love that most of us spend a lifetime searching for. Together they raised four daughters and a son. Olga was a devoted wife and mother, and her greatest joy in life was being just that. She provided a wonderful life for her children and was so proud of each of them. She truly loved being a mother and loved her children fiercely. Olga was truly a matriarch, with her strong and vibrant personality that was a life-force to those around her. Olga was larger than life and lit up a room when she entered. People were simply drawn to her, as she radiated kindness, compassion, and strength. Olga was generous and caring, always helping the less-fortunate and providing for them. She had a life well-lived but, more importantly, a life well-loved. Although she spent 85 beautiful years on this earth, her presence with us is noticeably gone and it saddens us to be without her. Her legacy will live on in our hearts and in our memories. Olga will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
In addition to her parents, Olga is preceded in death by her husband, Miguel Serrano Veliz in 2000; and brother, Fernando Urizar in 2020. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her children, Marta Ponce-Urizar (Ruben Arabena) of Miami, Florida, Olga Martina Serrano of Frisco, Texas, Oriana (Charles) Nicolas of Frisco, Texas, Miguel Serrano of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Paola Serrano of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Demi Serrano of Houston, Texas, Daniella Nicolas of Dallas, Texas and Derek Nicolas of Frisco, Texas; sister, Gabriela Urizar of Richmond, California; and brother, Ronald (Teresa) Urizar of Martinez, California.
