
Our Dearest Owen,

The day we first met was one of the happiest days of our lives. You brought such incredible joy to us. How lucky are we that we got to spend so much time together and share so many happy memories. Like when we read Curious George almost daily for well over a year! And those times you would sit in the window of our New York apartment waiting for a city bus to go by and getting so excited when you spotted one. But soon you were all grown up at 2 1/2 getting the attention of the adults in the room with your polite “excuse me” so you could ask the most pressing of questions like “what time does Paw Patrol come on?” or “what is that for?” and “why?” So very curious you were.   

  
We will always remember the days, sitting on the floor, playing “parking lot” with your dozens of matchbox cars, building legos, playing cards, doing puzzles and you making one of your fantastic magna-tile creations. Any warm day would find us outside riding scooters, bikes or the ziggle for hours on end. And in the summer it was playing in the back yard with the water table, the water shooters or spending one of many fun afternoons at the neighborhood pool with Aunt Essie, Kate and mom - you yelling “cannonball” while jumping off the side. 

  
You were always up for a game (Sequence, Exploding Kittens, checkers and chess) and so happy just to play - win or lose. Your kind, sweet spirit extended to the challenges you faced in your much too short life. You were so brave, so strong.  Our lives are forever changed by the love we shared and we will miss you more than we can ever say.

Sweet little Owen with moms’s help made this sweet sign for our apartment door  the day we came home from the hospital . I remember thinking  how wonderful these new friends of ours were to take the time to make this sign for my daughter when I believe Owen had just completed his transplant and Ash was a baby. They were so busy with their own battle but managed to be so thoughtful  and supportive to someone they had just met. We will treasure our Owen sign forever. ♥️♥️♥️

I feel very fortunate that I was able to meet little Owen at Lindsey’s parents house a few days after Christmas in 2018.  That day filled me with many good memories of Owen and his entire family.  Owen was full of energy and was very talkative in regards to his Christmas gift treasures he recently received.  I extend my deepest condolences to Jason and Lindsey on the loss of their precious and brilliant young son.

I just loved when he came to the Day hospital, he was the only patient I would let tell me what to do as far starting his IV.  I just loved hearing his little voice.  Going to miss you in room 6

I met Owen as a brand new baby with Lindsey at the New Mom's Group in Hoboken. We were new to living in the USA and Lindsey was warm and kind, and became a cherished friend. Our boys became 'friends' too and it was always lovely to get together and see the babies growing up together. Owen was an adorable baby, and at the centre of Lindsey and Jason's world. He grew up to be a smart, fun and loving little boy, despite having battled health problems in those early years.  We moved back to the UK when Owen was not yet 3 years old and Ash was just a baby, and it was sad to say goodbye to the McLeans, particularly emotional as they were setting off on their daunting journey to Philadelphia for Owen's bone marrow transplant. Sadly we have not seen the McLeans since we left Hoboken in May 2017, but I have kept in regular contact with Lindsey and it has been good share anecdotes about the children and to learn over the years that the boys still shared many similar interests (vehicles, space, 'how things work') and dislikes (mostly handwriting). It has also been heartbreaking to hear about Owen's worsening health problems, yet despite facing great challenges it was clear that he was a loving and intelligent little boy who touched the hearts of many, and was deeply loved by Lindsey, Jason, Ash and the wider family. My thoughts are with you all.      

Owen was our first baby in the family and I will miss him so much. I still don’t feel like he is gone and I don’t want to accept it. I will always remember how smart he was and how he made me laugh. He had an amazing life and was so loved and loved us all so well.

I’ll never forget meeting precious Owen at Kate and Michael’s wedding events. He was so sweet and playful and one of the most handsome guys in the room! He was managing the Polaroid station like a pro and helping Kate capture all her memories of those who came to celebrate. I also remember (and love) a story Kate or Lindsey shared about Owen letting them know he had called Tom Thumb and ordered his birthday cake for his dinosaur baseball party. Such a funny guy! Much love to the MacLean and Mancini families, always. 

This is one of my favorites. It was a big moment for the boys to lose their teeth. Xoxo

I never had the privilege of meeting Owen but I got to know how incredible and special he was through his Uncle Mark and Aunt Kelsi. I came to know what a remarkable and brave boy he was and I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss. Your family has been in my thoughts constantly.

I will always remember when we were visiting Jason & Lindsey and I decided to read a short book to Owen and Ash (I think it was "The Littlest Tugboat").  It was obviously a book that Owen knew cover-to-cover, because after nearly every sentence he interrupted me to add his thoughts on the story.  What is memorable is that each of his interjections began with one or more utterances of "Excuse Me".  He had obviously learned from his parents that you need to be polite when you interrupt someone.  In fact, he was so effectively polite that I listened to each of his comments before continuing the story, which meant that it took nearly 30 minutes to finish a 5 minute book!

He was a wonderful boy!!

Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy. (Inuit Proverb).    
We will miss you Owen. May your spirit run, play and be free!

Our thoughts and prayer go out to the whole family, we never had a chance to meet Owen but we are close friends with Steve and Cindy and they would tells about the joyful moments they shared with him. May you have comfort he is with our Lord in his arms and feels no pain, God Bless you all.
