It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Renee Carol (Jones) Goldblatt of Parker, Texas at the age of 82 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was born Nov. 4,1938 in Belton, Texas, a blessing to parents Rubye and Harry Jones. The family moved to Cleburne, where she attended elementary school, and later to San Angelo, where she graduated from high school. From an early age she demonstrated a talent for playing the piano and oil painting. She received a B.S. in Art from the University of Texas at Austin in 1960. After graduation she moved to Dallas and lived in an apartment “behind the pink wall” off Northwest Highway where she had access to a grand piano. She worked at the Dallas Museum of Art, fulfilling her dream of working with amazing exhibits and curators. Later she worked at the Dallas Public Library downtown location in a similar role.
She met Jim Goldblatt of Dallas in 1965 while on a horseback ride, and they were married at the behind-the-pink-wall apartment six months later after a whirlwind courtship. They were blessed with two daughters, Amy and Emily, and she continued her passion for art and music. She was often found painting, drawing, doing calligraphy or playing the piano.
Renee was active in her girls’ lives and supported them in every aspect, attending dance recitals, football games, swim meets, piano and choir concerts. She lived a full life as a wife, mother and grandmother, known to her grandchildren as Grammy. Her love for painting evolved from oils to watercolors, and she enjoyed vacationing and attending workshops in Santa Fe and in Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Donald Dickman. Her life’s legacy will be always be cherished by husband Jim, daughters Amy and Emily, sons-in-law John Howard and Michael Jestes, and grandchildren Hope Jestes, Hayden Jestes, Natalie Howard, Hunter Howard, and Kendall Howard.
A celebration of Renee’s life will be held at Event 1013 in downtown Plano, 1013 East 15th Street, this Saturday, Sept. 18, from 3 to 5 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society would be welcomed.
