Robert William Carter

Maj. Robert William Carter (Ret), born February 12, 1933, passed away at the age of 93 on August 11, 2026. A veteran of Vietnam, he was a pilot/navigator in the Air Force and had a lifelong love of the C130s that he flew. His second career was to return to East Texas State University (now part of the A&M system) for a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in industrial arts / sciences, after which he became a teacher at Shepton H.S. in Plano ISD until his (second) retirement. He held a wide range of interests, including stamps, trains, a love of gardening (particularly Chrysanthemums, with which he competed at the Dallas Arboretum, winning many ribbons), and playing bridge, including hosting Fridays at the Plano Senior Center for a number of years. He was also a proud member of the Wing Family of America, as a descendant of that historical Massachusetts family. He will truly be missed by both family and friends for his sense of humor.

He is preceded by his parents, Christeena & Malcolm Wing Carter and his brother, Malcolm Carter, and survived by his wife Leslie, his daughters Janet Randolph, Linda Panther, Beverly Carter, and step-daughter Maria Carter; his grandchildren Kimberly & Patrick Randolph, Tiffany Panther, and Courtney Madolora; his great-grandchildren Haley, Benjamin, and Henry Randolph; Jaden Usrey; and Isebella Madolora; and his great-great-grandson Xander Usrey. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Pam Riddle and his brother, Chris Carter.

Visitation will be held at the Ted Dickey West Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 2nd from 5 – 8 PM. Private funeral services with military honors will be held at the DFW National Cemetery on Thursday, September 3rd. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dallas Arboretum and the Wing Family of America.
