Sammie Fern McDonald passed away peacefully on May 8, 2014, in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by her daughters. She was born on May 28, 1928, in Hollis, Oklahoma, to Stella Anthony. Her father was L.L. (Mark) Anthony. Sammie graduated from Lubbock High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and attended Texas Tech University. She spent most of her life in Lubbock in the company of many life-long friends and family. An expert seamstress and knitter, she was also an experienced bridge player and avid reader. In the company of her late husband of 59 years, Fred McDonald, she traveled the world, returning with many wonderful stories of their adventures. Sammie was well loved by both friends and family.
Sammie leaves behind her daughters and their families: Danna McDonald; Cathy McDonald Grossman, husband Robert and daughter Lindsay; Chris McDonald Mitchell, husband Jeff, son Jeffrey Mitchell and wife Melissa who recently made Sammie a great-grandmother with the birth of their daughter Evelyn, and daughter Lesley Mitchell Martin del Campo and husband Daniel; and Cindy Scott, husband Ron, son Peter and daughter Taryn.
Her daughters would like to thank the primary care givers from Apple Care and Companion: Carolyn, Jostina, and Rose (Blossom) as well as Professional Geriatric Care Manager, Carol Franzen, for the wonderful care and support they provided to the family for many years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that remembrances be made as contributions to her favorite charities: The Children's Home of Lubbock, Hospice of Lubbock, or Smile Train.
Sammie will take her place beside her husband in Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas, and a memorial service will be scheduled.
