Sherry was born on May 4,1942, in Bellingham, Washington to Earl and Peggy Linn. She was the oldest of four children: Sherry, Peggy Ann, Earl (aka Skip) and Tammy. She excelled in school, graduating from Bellingham High School in 1960, and then attending Shaw Secretarial School.
Sherry married Gary Caillier in 1961 and gave birth to her first son, Scott, in November of that same year. In 1967, she had another son, Daniel. The family moved around a bit: from Washington to Virginia then to Connecticut, and they eventually settled down in a townhouse in Farmers Branch, Texas in January of 1976, where she lived for almost 50 years. In 1977, Sherry found employment at Braniff Airlines where she worked until its dissolution in 1982. In 1980, her family suffered tragedy when her first born son took his own life at the age of 18. She and Gary also divorced that year.
Sherry went on to study to be a legal secretary and started a new chapter in her career. In the early 1980s, she started a Dallas Tennis Singles Social Club that would meet regularly on Friday nights at Brookhaven Country Club. She was very active in Toastmasters (a club for public speaking), where she met the love of her life Charles Gilmer in 1987. They were married in 1989 and remained devoted to each other for the rest of her life.
In 2005 she embarked on another new chapter in her career when she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Dallas Christian College followed by her Master’s degree in Education, Reading, and ESL from Dallas Baptist University in 2008. She then began teaching English as a second language - the most rewarding chapter in her career. Sherry loved teaching, where she formed relationships she would cherish for the rest of her life.
Sherry was truly a woman of faith. She was a dedicated member of The Branch Church for many years as well as the Jewish Messianic congregations Adat Shalom and Beth Sar Shalom. She was grateful for the opportunity to minister through missions to China, Russia, and to Uganda twice. She cherished her friends in these organizations and the love and praise she shared with them.
Sherry was a lifelong animal lover, particularly of dogs and pigs, which led her to become a vegetarian many years ago. She fostered and adopted many dogs over the years, and she will be missed by Remy, Manny, her fish, and Mr. Turtle.
Sherry was also well known as an exceptional home chef and baker and will be particularly missed for the beautiful and delicious fruit pizzas she so lovingly labored over for Charles and her son Daniel’s birthdays and other special occasions for the last 50 years.
Sherry passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday morning November 14, 2025 at the age of 83. She is survived by her husband of 36 years - Charles Gilmer, her son Daniel and his wife Liz, her brother Skip and his wife Pat, her sister Tammy, and several nieces and nephews including Earleen, Dawn, Terri, and Wendy.
