Stone Thomas Murray, age 76 passed away on Thursday September 19, 2019 with his family by his side. Stone was born on Wednesday May 26, 1943 in Amherst, Texas to Dr. Joyce Elaine Murray and Dr. Thomas Francis Murray.
Stone was the oldest of three children and grew up in Huntsville, Texas. He graduated from Huntsville High School in 1960. He then went to Stephen F. Austin State University but dropped out to join the US Army.
In the Army, he was a specialist and was on active duty for 2 years. During his time in the service he wrote for the "Stars & Stripes" which was the Army newspaper. He also took photos from a helicopter for the newspaper. After his time in the Army, he went on to obtain his BA in journalism from Sam Houston State University in 1968.
He worked over 10 years for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Stone was married to the love of his life and best friend Betty (Smith) Murray for 47 wonderful years. He loved his family deeply and would do anything for them. When he wasn't with his family his favorite place to be was sitting in his recliner watching "Game of Thrones", "Shameless", "Ray Donovan" or "True Detective" on the television. He also loved to watch and feed the ducks at Big Lake. He collected baseball caps even though he never wore some of them. He loved his Dallas Cowboys, fishing and hunting.
Stone is survived by his wife, Betty Murray; son Richard Murray; daughter-in-law Claudia Murray; daughter Tracie Mauldin; and son-in-law Doug Mauldin; grandchild Leslie Mauldin, grandchild Taylor Mauldin, grandchild Laura Mauldin, grandchild Aaron Mauldin, grandchild Ben Murray, grandchild-in-law Shannon Murray, grandchild Lisa Murray, grandchild Madeleine Murray, great grandchild Evelyn Murray and great grandchild Hannah Murray. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory his brother Mark Murray;sister-in-law Michelle Murray; sister Joyce Murray Duck and brother-in-law Ronald Duck.
Stone was preceded in death by; father Dr. Thomas Francis Murray and mother Dr. Joyce Elaine Murray.
A memorial service for Stone will be held Saturday, September 28, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 President George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, Texas, followed by a celebration of life & visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
