

She was born on May 27, 1930, to Franklin and Estelle Herdeg in Buffalo, New York and was raised in Gowanda, NY. She graduated from Pine Manor Junior College in Massachusetts and then Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City.
She married Robert Hudmon Newman in 1951. As a devoted wife and a loving mother, Sue was a strong role model and tireless advocate for their four daughters. She even served as a Girl Scout leader and PTA president. After her family was grown, she was an administrative assistant to the VP of Finance and then a retirement benefits specialist at Turner Broadcasting/CNN in Atlanta, GA, for many years. Sue was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America. Her volunteer activities benefited The Betts House in Cincinnati, OH, and the Salvation Army and Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta. Her family and friends will remember her as a nature lover, especially of birds and flowers.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, John and David Herdeg.
She is survived by her sister Loraine (Herdeg) Murray of Buffalo, NY, and her daughters: Diane (and Paul) Greene and Lisa (and Eric) Oleson of Plano, TX; Loraine (and Ken) Christensen of Tampa, FL; and Judith (and Doug) Spritzky of Taylor Mill, KY. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Erik (and Amy) Christensen, Krista (and Doug) McCoy, Sarah (and Michael) Dippel, Stephanie (and Alex) Bardales, Lukas Christensen, Shannon Oleson, Kurt (and Kaitlyn) Christensen, Monica Spritzky, and Kim Spritzky. She had two great- grandchildren: Rachel Dippel and Shea McCoy.
