William (Bill) George Greenough died peacefully at home on August 17, 2015, having just celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends. He was born on June 25, 1935 in Sioux Falls, SD.
Bill completed his undergraduate studies at South Dakota University and received his Medical Degree from Kansas University where he was an active member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He served his Radiology Residency at Charles T. Miller hospital in St. Paul MN. After passing his boards, he served in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army as Chief of Radiology during 1966-1967 at Fort Carson, CO.
After moving to Irving, TX in 1967, he served 39 years as a Board Certified Interventional Radiologist at Baylor University Hospital in Dallas. He was granted the title of Clinical Professor in the department of Radiology by Southwestern Medical School. He was a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners, a member of the National Roentgen Ray Society, an active member of the Radiological Society of North America and the Dallas County Medical Society. His professional integrity and skill as a physician won him the respect of his colleagues across the medical community. Bill loved his ministry of being a physician and never complained about being called out at nights or on weekends. He was always available to friends for medical consultation in his own calm and professional manner.
Bill married Kathy Jean Allen on April 25, 1987 in Dallas, TX. This union created a loving blended family which included nine grandchildren who adored him: son Jeffrey Allen Greenough and wife Lisa; daughter Kimberly Ann Greenough-Hodges and husband Will; daughter Lori Marie Ingrum; son Stephen Robert Ingrum and wife Tami. He was preceded in death by his parents Ida Mae and George Wesley Greenough. Other surviving family members cherishing his memory include his sister Jeanine Geraets and his aunt Jeanne Damon. He leaves a wonderful legacy of quiet elegance to his family which include many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Bill and Kathy traveled extensively and moved to North Dallas in 1996. His passion for hunting as a young man turned to golf and tennis in the latter part of his life. These were probably the hardest activities for him to relinquish as his disease took over his body.
Bill and Kathy were both ordained Elders of the Presbyterian Church/USA where they built strong and deep relationships with many loving friends. The support and care provided by his wide circle of wonderful friends, neighbors and colleagues during his battle with Lewy Body Dementia, are embraced by his family. A special acknowledgement is given to his health caregiver, Tiffany Montoya, who gave Bill such tender loving care these past few weeks. We were all blessed by her presence.
In his quiet manner, Bill made us laugh. He wiped our tears. He hugged us tight. He watched us succeed. He saw us fail, but kept us strong. We will never lose him. He will continue to be part of every act, thought and decision we make. His love will leave an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared Bill’s love.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Tuesday August 25th at 1:30 in the afternoon at Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church, 3901 North Star Rd., Richardson TX. A private Inurnment will be held at the Columbarium of Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church at a later date.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Mission Committee of Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church, Faith Presbyterian Hospice or the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.” George S. Patton, Jr.
