Arja I. Mathews (née Pulkinnen) passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the age of 82. Born and raised in Helsinki, Finland, she lived in Bellerose, New York, for 44 years and in West Babylon, New York, for nine years. A member of the Lutheran Church, Arja served as Vice President of Accounting and worked for 29 years at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein–Commerzbank. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed walking, skiing, and traveling, especially returning to Finland to visit family and friends. Arja devoted her life to those she loved, particularly her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Kevin and his wife, Cathy, and Richard and his wife, Nancy; and her five grandchildren, Karley, Michael, Patrick, Jason, and Christopher.
