Frank Congro Jr. of Deer Park, NY, passed on Monday, June 29, 2026, one day before his 87th birthday. Frank was born in Brooklyn, NY to Frank Congro Sr. and Helen (Narus) Congro. Frank attended St. Mary Gate of Heaven School where he met his future wife, Dorothy, in the 8th grade. They married in 1961 after Frank was honorably discharged from the US Navy and moved their family to Deer Park in 1966.
Frank spent 4 proud years with the US Navy, stationed in Key West, FL. He was an aircraft mechanic with the Navy and spent most of his service time aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal maintaining fighter jets during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After discharge from the Navy, Frank started working for Pan Am Airlines where his love of aviation continued. When Pan Am folded, Frank effortlessly transitioned to Delta Airlines and continued to move up the ranks in the maintenance department to Duty Director at JFK airport. Frank’s commercial airline career lasted 59 years, cut short of the 60 year mark with the arrival of COVID. He would have stayed forever.
Frank was born a natural mechanic who could fix or build anything. This was obvious not only in his career, but also at home. From fixing the family cars to building a vacation home in Pennsylvania, Frank reveled in picking up his tools and traveling to help any of his children with their projects. He never hesitated and would do anything for his children and grandchildren.
Frank was a devoted parishioner at Ss. Cyril & Methodius in Deer Park where he could be found on Monday mornings counting the weekends’ collection.
Frank was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, only 8 months ago. He is survived by his children: Denise (Bill); Frank III (Roseann); Debbie; and Rick (Nicole), and 8 grandchildren: Brittany (Mike), Joe, Scott, Lauren, Maureen, Alison, Brooke and Michael. His first great-grandchild, Olivia (whom he lovingly called his “little olive”) was born just six days before he passed. He and Dorothy can now watch her grow up together from Heaven.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 1, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Boyd-Caratozzolo Funeral Home, 1785 Deer Park Ave, Deer Park, NY. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 11:15 am and Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church, 125 Half Hollow Road, Deer Park, NY.
