James Coates

James Coates, 79, of Deer Park, New York, passed away on July 12, 2026. Born February 5, 1947, James will be remembered as a cherished presence in the lives of those who knew him—steadfast in his devotion, guided by honesty, and marked by a generosity that was offered quietly and without hesitation. His life reflected the dignity of hard work and the enduring value of showing up for others, day after day, in ways both seen and unseen.

James proudly served as a Navy veteran and went on to build a long career with Verizon, earning the respect of colleagues through reliability, integrity, and a consistent willingness to do what needed to be done. Whether in uniform or in his working life, he carried himself with a sense of responsibility that spoke to his character and to the principles he held close.

He was the devoted husband of Melinda. James also found deep joy in family, and he especially loved to spoil his nieces and nephews—an expression of his warmhearted generosity and the care he took in making others feel valued and remembered.

Visitation will be held at Claude R. Boyd/Caratozzolo Funeral Home, 1785 Deer Park Ave, Deer Park, NY 11729, on July 14, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
