On Monday July 1st, 2019, Adam Marquez, beloved child and friend to us all, passed away in McFarland, California at the age 24. Adam was born August 8th, 1994 in Bakersfield, California to Ana and Gerardo Marquez.

Adam was born in Bakersfield, California and grew up in McFarland, California while graduating McFarland High School in 2012 with so many friends. For the next couple of years he studied hard at both the University of California: Irvine and Bakersfield College while along making new friends. His final achievement came with great news that he was accepted and would be returning back to UC Irvine to complete his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

Adam's favorite hobbies throughout his life was playing sports, competing in chess and of course no one can forget his passion for playing video games. Throughout his joyous time with all of us, he was greatly known for making everyone laugh. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. His most charitable act of kindness to us all was his determination to help others, and it extended so far as to even missing his college classes just to make sure he donated blood at the Houchin Community Blood Bank. His charitable acts will never be forgotten and will be continued regularly by all his friends and family.

As the youngest of the family, Adam had a loving father, Gerardo Marquez, and a loving mother, Ana Marquez, that raised him and cared for him with all their heart. Within his dearest family, he also had two, older caring brothers, Ivan and Eric Marquez, that made sure he was always loved. His family never stopped growing as it extended far beyond his close friends, teachers and even relatives that cared for him as their own.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 12th, 2019 at the St. Elizabeth Church in McFarland, CA at 9 o’clock a.m. Flowers or donations may be sent to 707 Browning Road, Delano, CA. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.delanomortuary.com for the Marquez family.

It is unfortunate to hear the news, but I will remember him always as the genuine and kind person that he was and for the friendship that he unconditionally extended to others, including myself.

Adam was more than a cousin to me, he was one of my brothers. I will always cherish the moments we spent together on holidays and family gatherings. It will never be the same without you and your laughter Adam. My daughter Sofia described Adam as one of the nicest uncles she had. My son Alex enjoyed playing games with his uncles and was looking forward to the rematch kick ball game against the old guys. Of course Adam was part of the young group and I remember that they couldn’t believe the older cousins/uncles beat them. It was pretty funny. We loved spending time together as a family and will continue to do so while Adam and Tita (our grandma) look down from heaven with a smile.
We love you Adam! 💚

In the song of life, Adam Marquez was surely the composer. A very observant man who would rather spend his time helping others than receiving, Adam preferred to live in a world of harmony where everything around him made sense. In fact, he depended on his sensory world to provide him with the kindred spirits to make other laugh. A free spirit, Adam believed that actions definitely spoke for themselves. He seemed to know what to do to make others enjoy their time around him before his condition started to hold him back. Adam perceived that all of life’s possibilities were open to him, yet he lived with a definite sense of caring for others. He was a man who was always kind and caring.

Adam was born on August 8, 1994 at Kern Medical in Bakersfield, California. His parents were Gerardo and Ana Marquez. Adam was raised in McFarland, California. As a young child, Adam was optimistic in his outlook. He sought out the possibilities in a given situation and looked for ways to apply his creative energies.

Early on in his family relationships, Adam showed that he was a tolerant and flexible person, and he got along fairly well with everyone. He was raised with two siblings. He had two older brothers, Ivan and Eric. He was a calm and playful child who was adaptable to any situation.

As he was growing up, Adam developed into a person who enjoyed physically doing things, and he took pleasure in using his hands in order to create. Whether it was drawing different project, working with his cars, or even just tapping away the keyboards to win his next video game, Adam liked concrete things. Growing up, Adam took part in basketball, karate and soccer. In his spare time he liked to play video games, win at chess, watch movies, play card games, and make everyone laugh. Adam's memorable achievements included being a consistent principle honor roll student throughout school and at the top of his math classes with no effort at all. However, to Adam, the most fun he had was simply playing, and spending time with friends.

Early on in his school years, Adam showed an interest in learning, especially when it came to subjects in the science and mathematics. At times, school learning did not provide Adam with sufficient challenges; being an avid mathematician, he was often solving mathematical problems well above his grade level and was always eager to learn. His passion for science and mathematics was so keen that fellow students and even his teachers recognized it. His passion for art fell into the music world where at an early age of his education he began to play the trumpet and then moved on to the guitar. He graduated from McFarland High School in 2012. He enjoyed some courses more than others, having favorite classes and teachers. His favorite class in high school was mathematics. The teacher he enjoyed learning from the most was from Mrs. Shari Gonzalez (Math), Mrs. Cathy Rowland (English) and Mrs. Bowman (Math). In addition to being in the top of his class for mathematics, he will be remembered by classmates for being jokingly and cheerfully spirited athlete.

In college, Adam showed that he was able to focus on what was necessary. He found it quite easy to dive headlong into classes, especially those that truly interested him. Using his understanding of language, Adam was able to move comfortably through a wide variety of courses. He also demonstrated his artistic temperament and talent, even in classes that weren’t typically considered art courses. Adam’s ability to assemble highly creative projects became second nature to him. He earned his place in the undergraduate engineering program at the University of California: Irvine. His favorite courses were math and introductory classes in engineering. Adam consistently pushed his boundaries to achieve new goals and attempt new heights, even with his conditions that tried to hold him back.

Those who didn’t know Adam well might not view him as being an outgoing person, those who called him their friend knew differently. Adam was shy and sensitive, a person who never forced his opinions and values on others. Close friends knew that his kindness was unmatched, and once you became a friend of Adam’s, you understood how true a friend he could be. While growing up, some of his best friends were Marco Silva, Andy Silva, Jose "Guerro" Cabanillas, Carlos Cabanillas, Chuy. Later in life, he became friends with Raul Nunez, Eric Ortiz, Ryan Chavez, Alex Medina and Jose Gamez.

Adam found ways to enjoy what he did for a living. He worked hard and did his best to succeed every day. His primary occupation was a hand draftsman while working to accomplish his civil engineering degree. He was self-employed and drew several residential project since the age of 18. Adam tended to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done without imposing his will on others.

Adam enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were playing video games, destroying his competition in tennis and working on his Volkswagen Super Beetle. Adam was content to enjoy his hobbies alone but was also willing to share his interests with others. He was relaxed in his approach to his leisure time because he wanted to savor the present moment.

Adam liked sports. In high school, Adam played tennis, wrestling, run cross-country and track & field. In his college years, Adam continued to stay active by playing tennis with his friends and run consistently for his own health. Recreational sports included occasional golf, jogging and playing tennis with family and friends. Adam was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he got the opportunity. Tops on his list were watching video game tournaments.

Throughout his life, Adam was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. In high school, Adam was a member of the AVID, Chess Club and involved in all the AP courses being offered. Throughout his later years, Adam was an active donor for the Houchin Community Blood Bank. He had a tendency to bring peace to his relationships by avoiding disagreements.

Adam’s faith was important to him. He was a member of the St. Elizabeth Church for the majority of his life. During his recent times, he was actively involved in supporting the children with their discovery of God. Adam's passionate commitment to upholding his values placed him at home in his religion, where he took comfort in the company of others who believed as he did.

Though he never set out to gain individual recognition, Adam was given accolades for his many and varied accomplishments throughout his life. He often undervalued his achievements and abilities and simply viewed his performance as fulfilling his responsibilities. Some of his most prestigious awards came through his education, as one of the top of his class, he continuously excelled in mathematics while receiving the highest honors throughout his education.

Because he loved the world around him, Adam enjoyed traveling and going away on vacations. It was an opportunity for him to kick back and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Adam put his personal trademark on any leisure planning that he undertook. Favorite vacations included Camp Sunshine Dreams, camping in the Sequoia, visiting Mexico, enjoying any beaches and visiting family in Los Angeles.

Adam was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of Adam’s favorites was Chico, the high spirited and jumpy dog. They were best friends for 4 years.

Adam passed away on July 1, 2019 at McFarland, California. Adam fought against his inner thoughts but at last took his own life. He is survived by his parents Gerardo and Ana, and his two older brothers Ivan and Eric. Services will be at St. Elizabeth Church. Adam will be laid to rest in North Kern Cemetery District in Delano, California.

Adam was a good man, a kind man, and a practical man who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being warm and deeply caring. He leaves behind him a treasury of life-long friendships and wonderful memories. Adam always had much to give and was able to make those connections in his life where his gifts were appreciated. Adam was a faithful, practical and loving person. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Adam Marquez.
