Mrs. Felipa Mary Slade

Felipa Mary Maestas Slade March 13, 1932 - January 8, 2012 Felipa Mary Maestas Slade, 79 of Delano passed away January 8, 2012 in Bakersfield, CA. Formerly of Phyllis & Co. Felipa Mary Maestas Slade was born on March 13, 1932 to the wonderful parents of Jose Adan Maestas and Rosita Mary Pacheco Maestas. She lived in Pastura, New Mexico. Then the family moved to Melrose followed by Santa Rosa, New Mexico. Later the family created roots in Muleshoe, Texas, there she suffered with a broken back, as a teenager, worked in the field of Muleshoe, TX., until she worked to better herself and received her LVN in Nursing. Felipa was the only Spanish speaking Nurse in the town of Muleshoe. Later after her mother's passing the family moved once again to California where she got married then returned to Texas. Towards the end of 1974 she once again came to California to live in Delano, CA. In the eighties she started her own alterations shop on Main Street where she provided top notch sewing and alterations for everyone in town. Phyllis as her customers knew her by. She had customers from as far as Hollywood to perform their alterations. She had a great passion for showing young people how to fix their own clothes along with being an avid quilter. Felipa is survived by: her only daughter Rosita A. Slade of Delano, CA. Her brothers: Ruben Maestas of Santa Maria, CA, Jose Adan Maestas, Jr. of San Jose, CA, Roman Maestas of Delano, CA, Ramon Maestas of Keene, CA. Her sisters: Anita Maestas of Torrance, CA, Maria Maestas Deleon of Bakersfield, CA, Adela Maestas- Gonzales of Delano, CA, Beatrice Regalado of San Bernardino, CA. And numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Felipa is preceded in death by her brother Jesus Adan Maestas, mother Rosita Mary Pacheco Maestas, father Jose Adan Maestas, brother Manuel Vincent Maestas, Juan Benito Pablo Maestas, sister Eva Hernandez, brother David Maestas, sister Maria Carolina Cecilia Rojas and niece Sonya Deleon. Services: Viewing and Rosary are to be held Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 6:00pm at Delano Mortuary on Browning Road, Delano, CA. Mass to be held on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 9:00am.
