Johnny Rodriguez Muñoz, 82, of Delano, California, passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side, on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Born to Manuel and Juanita Muñoz on August 28, 1941, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Johnny joined the Navy after high school and explored the world. After his honorable discharge in 1963, Johnny continued his education in Los Angeles, California.
With grit and perseverance, Mr. Muñoz joined the McDonald’s Corporation and built the first McDonald’s restaurant in Delano in 1977. He was the franchisee until he sold the store in 1988. During his tenure, Johnny was a member of the prestigious McDonald’s National Advertising Board.
John had been a passionate member of the community, serving as a City of Delano Councilmember, Kern County Grand Juror, member of the American Legion, Elk’s and Lion’s Clubs, board member of North Kern Cemetery District, as well as Delano College Foundation Board.
Johnny was known for his quick humor, family-oriented lifestyle, generous nature and love of the game of chance. He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Juanita, brother Manuel Jr., and sister Alice Mae. Johnny is survived by his beautiful wife Gloria, children Stephanie (Marciano) Flores, Yvonne Muñoz (John) Zuniga and John Jon (Christine) Muñoz; grandchildren Briana Annette, Marciano IV, Mathew Paul, Micah Alfonso, Gillian Muñoz, Jackson Muñoz, Jonathan Paul, Cristian Jaye, Daniel James; sister Irene (David) Hollenkamp, brothers George (Ayola) Muñoz, Robert (Maria) Muñoz and David (Debbie) Muñoz, as well as three mangy mutts.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am and Rosary from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Funeraria Del Angel Delano, 707 Browning Road, Delano, CA 93215. Interment to follow at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 East Bear Mountain Boulevard, Arvin, CA 93203.
