

Luis was born on April 27, 1946 in Eagle Pass, Texas and passed away at the age of seventy on July 8, 2016 in Bakersfield, CA. Luis peacefully passed away surrounded by his family and loved ones as he lost his battle to heart disease. Luis moved to Delano in September of 1963 and would spend the rest of his life raising his family and growing roots in Delano.
Luis is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Janie; his daughter, Elizabeth Avila Luci; his sons. Robert and wife Jill, Andrew; his grandsons Jonathan, Nathan and Wes; adopted son Louis (Coco) siblings; Mike and Carlos Avila, Yolanda Reyna, Alicia Huerta and numerous friends and family.
Luis graduated from Delano High School, class of 1966 and would later graduate from Bakersfield College class of 1975. Shortly after graduating high school, Luis was drafted in the United States Army. Luis would serve three years as a member of the U.S. Army Band 5th Infantry Division Fort Carson Colorado, also known as “Red Diamond.” Luis enjoyed playing his trumpet, guitar and keyboard and sharing his music with family and friends. He especially took pleasure in watching Dodger, Cowboy, and Clippers games. Luis was a member of the Delano Elks Lodge and band member at his church in McFarland, CA. Luis will be remembered for his love of family and the pride he had for his grandsons and his love and passion for Jesus Christ.
Our heartfelt thanks goes out to the family, friends, doctors and nurses who have supported Luis and our family. A viewing will be held at Delano Mortuary 707 Browning Rd, Delano, CA 93215. Visitation will be held on Monday July 18, 2016 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Chapel service will be held on Tuesday July 19, 2016 from 8:00 AM - 9:30 PM.
