Marion Joyce Andreas was born July 4, 1941, to Marvin and Dorothy Reid, and was ushered into Heaven, with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 10, 2026. She grew up with three siblings: Gerry, Myrna, and Margie.
Joyce was a follower of Jesus Christ, being saved at the age of ten years old while attending the First Christian Church in Visalia. She continued to be actively involved with youth activities; Chi Rho (7th and 8th) and CYF through her high school years.
Joyce loved music, taking piano lessons under Georgia Kardstedt, and learning the clarinet beginning band at Veva Blunt Elementary School. She was in the marching band through her high school years, and was also very active in campus clubs, talent shows, after game dances, and many sports events. During her high school years, she also participated in Rainbow Girls and was in the first senior class to graduate from the new Mt. Whitney High School in 1959. During her high school years, she worked at William’s Jewelers on Main Street, Visalia.
The Oak Grove 4-H club also played a big part in her life, from the age of ten through high school. Her projects included sewing, cooking, leadership, demonstrations, and she also raised a steer. She entered her work in the 4-H, Tulare County, and California State fairs, and won many blue and purple ribbons She also won the Maid of Cotton award in the 4-H Dress Revue. However, the best reward during her 4-H years, was meeting her love, Roger Andreas, who was also a member of the Earlimart 4-H Club. They married March 25, 1961, at the First Christian Church in Visalia and just celebrated their 65th anniversary in March of this year.
Joyce and Roger began their married life in Terra Bella, where Roger farmed with his family until he was drafted into the army. Neither realized at the time that Joyce was pregnant with their son, Terry Roger Andreas, who was born on May 6, 1962. Terry was three months old when Roger was able to meet him for the first time.
Joyce and Terry were able to then go with Roger to Baltimore, Maryland, where he was stationed, and then on to Key West, Florida. Upon Roger’s discharge from the army, the three of them moved to Delano where Joyce was very active in Terry’s sports and school events. She was an avid sports enthusiast, attending the state track meets in Clovis, with Terry and Roger.
As a member of the Church of our Saviour-Lutheran, she taught youth and adult classes, was the Sunday School Superintendent, and coordinated many meals and events. She also played the organ during Sunday morning services.
For over sixty years, Joyce was also involved with Bible Study Fellowship as a discussion leader, substitute teaching leader, and area substitute teaching leader—training many new substitute teaching leaders , and she also traveled to many classes in California with the area team.
