Noemi Amaya Gutierrez, 88, of Pixley, CA, where she resided for 7 years, entered into eternal rest on March 4, 2021. She was born on February 27, 1933 in Pflugerville, Texas, to the late Rev. Juan M. Amaya and Angela G. Amaya.
Noemi was dedicated to the Lord on October 22, 1933 by Rev. Melecio Menchaca in Austin, Texas.
She accepted Jesus as her personal Saviour in 1948 during a Crusade/Revival by the Rev. Crecensio Salazar. She was baptized in 1949 by Rev. Terezo and Eloisa Charles. Noemi’s parents were migrant labor workers that moved from various cities and states to work the seasonal crops along with her siblings. While residing in Big Spring, Texas, she was employed at a jewelry store and at the Hotel Settles.
Wherever the family was residing, they attended local churches which was important to her parents.
She met and married George Briseno Gutierrez on June 12, 1953 in Big Spring, TX. They were blessed with 4 children: Angelita (October 1954), George (November 1956), Elizabeth (August 1959), Rosie (June 1961).
She continued the tradition of her parents, by taking her children to church every Sunday and weekdays throughout all their growing years.
On June of 1967, she made a transition move to Earlimart, CA, with the assistance of her father and brother John. Her parents and siblings opened their home to reside together in their home. Noemi was a responsible and organized parent, she began to plan what was required to raise her 4 children. She began working as a field worker picking grapes and saving for the next step.
She devoted her life and heart to God and her children. She put her trust totally in God, in every decision she had to make. She did that through prayer and practicing her faith in God. Her parents always were there to assist in every way they were able to. With God’s blessing, she purchased a modest house across her sister’s house on Tulare Avenue. She enrolled in night classes at Delano High School to obtain her Diploma.
She was a faithful member of “Sendeo de la Cruz” church in Earlimart, CA for 54 years. She served as an adult and youth Sunday School teacher, deacon, board member and as a Missions Treasurer. She participated in many church activities; making tamales, cleaning the sanctuary, church and parsonage yards, as well as other activities.
God opened another door for her by placing a person from the church, who encouraged her to apply for a teacher-aide position. God blessed her with that job and a few years later with a full time position as a Migrant Education clerk at the Elementary School. She retired after 30 years of employment. She was well respected, trusted, and others confided in her regarding other important matters. She was loved by the local families of the Earlimart community as well as her church family.
Noemi loved her family. Family was very important to her. She was happy for the visits and phone calls she received. She loved the Lord and served Him all her life. She loved praying for her children, grandchildren and her great grandchildren. On every family occasion with them, she let her heart’s desire be known, that they find a church to attend; to seek God and develop a lasting relationship with God. She leaves a great example for all of us to follow.
She has finished her work here on earth and has gone to be in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is not a goodbye but “Until we meet Again.”
Her favorite Bible verses are found in 1 Timothy 1:15 and Jeremiah 31:3. She had many favorite songs that she enjoyed singing at church and at home.
Her love for nature was evident; she spent time working on plants, flowers, trimming roses and pine trees, mowing the grass, watching the sparrows in the birdbath fountain, looking at the butterflies and dragonflies flying around, especially the hummingbirds. She loved going to the beach and trips to the mountains. She enjoyed camping with her family and going to the river to swim.
Noemi is survived by her Daughters: Angelita Cavasos (Freddie) Pixley, CA; Elizabeth Maese (Richard) Porterville, CA; Rosie Gutierrez (Fermin Carrillo) Visalia, CA; her Son: George A. Gutierrez (Deborah) Big Spring, TX.
