Uncle Pilo,
It seems like it was only a few short years ago that we all lived in Salinas. I can remember how the house always smelled good...like menudo or coffee or something delicious. Some of my earliest memories are indistinguishable between our house and yours. The bbqs, the birthday parties. I remember it always seemed like you had the biggest Christmas trees. I don't know how you fit them in that house! I remember you would pay me a couple of dollars to walk on your back like George Jefferson did to his neighbor. In good times or bad, there wasn't a time when you didn't bring laughter to us all. I imagine that during your time in the military and the Department of Corrections, there were times that were stressful and others were worried or scared, and I bet you cracked a joke and made them laugh and for a moment, feel better. That's a true gift. Of all the partners my Dad ever had during his career, none of them could come close to you. What a blessing to have someone you could trust wholeheartedly in a job that could be incredibly challenging. If I understood the conversations you both had about work back then the way I would now, it would have been fascinating to hear the strategy and ideas you both came up with. People like you created the change the Department needed to be able to start making huge strides in evolving into a more professional, safer, and more inclusive place. The quick-witted and creative ways you both addressed problems set the tone for forward-thinking that helped save lives and also bettered the environment to where rehabilitation is a focus rather than an afterthought. Not only did you serve the people of the State of California so well, but your service to your country is also appreciated. It was very sad for us to be there as you were laid to rest, but as I stood there in front of the casket with the American flag draped over it, the Veterans Memorial with names of friends and family of yours that had served in the background, and beyond that, the American flag and POW-MIA flag waving gently in the wind, the only feeling that could surpass
 the grief was the pride in being able to say "This man and this hero is family to me!" Thank you to all those that honored you in the way you earned by your commitment to your family and fellow citizens. 
You and my Dad were from a different generation where men didn't really say "I love you", but what we must remember is that it is much easier to say those words than it is to prove them. You worked a dangerous and difficult job for years and always gave to your family. I am thankful that God blessed you with a wife like my Aunt Alice. 51 years of marriage is a milestone very few will reach anymore in our society as things go these days, but 51 happy years of love and respect is extremely rare. We will be here for your family and Grandma just as you were always there for ours. We will always love you and my wife Ruslene and I will always cherish the laughter and stories you shared.
The goal of a good man is to be someone that others should strive to be like and whom, when they have gone beyond this world, leaves a legacy of a shining example that shines brighter than the grief of their loss . Mission accomplished, Uncle. 

Tata, My Dad...

I cannot begin to tell you how much I miss you. Not just me, but the family. I miss waking up to you yelling about how much you hate Obama and how much of a Trump supporter you were (insert eye roll...lol). As much as your loud yelling would irk my nerves, I would give anything right now to hear your loud voice one more time. This holiday season is going to feel so empty without you here... Without you being Santa Claus. Its going to be tough but I promise we will make sure your Sweetheart is ok : ). Thank you for showing me the many life lessons you taught me... to not be afraid to speak up and to not be afraid to let people know when they are wrong... also for teaching me how to put someone in a headlock and to break someone's nose... but those stories are for another time hahahaha. But most importantly thank you for being my Tata, my Dad. The only man I have ever loved. Your love towards Nana is so pure and so unconditional is has shown me what true love is, and I will never settle for anything less because you showed me right from wrong. You and Nana provided me with such a great life, a life I would have never gotten to live if it weren't for you both. And for that I am forever grateful. You are the greatest man I have ever met, no one comes close to you. I love you forever and always. Until we meet again.

Tata,
There aren't enough words to thank you for the great man that you were and for all that you did for our family. You were everything a husband, father, and grandfather should be....wise, caring, hardworking, a true jokester, one of the best story tellers, but above all a family man. Family was everything to you. You and nana always made spending time together as a family a top priority and because of that i owe some of my best memories to you. From our Disneyland vacations, our cruise trips to Mexico, our vegas adventures, our holiday gatherings, and best of all our backyard bbq's at nana and tatas❤ i will forever cherish the memories of us together and so will my babies. We miss you so much already....we miss hearing your stories of your time spent in the army( even if we had heard them all 100 times before haha) we miss hearing your jokes and watching you crack up with us, we miss your wisdom and advice, but most of all we miss watching you and nana together and the love u two always showed one another. There will never be another man like you and your absence has left such a deep pain in us all, but we were so blessed to have you and we find peace knowing that you are now resting in the loving arms of our Lord. Thank you again for making us the strong, smart, silly, loving family that we are. Your legacy will continue for years to come through your kids, grandkids, and great grandkids and we promise to make you proud. Words dont explain how much u meant too us..every life lesson u taught me n all the wise words you said to me i will always cherish n pass them down to our kids..you and my NANA were my #1 fans in anything we did we always had your support.You both were great role models and couldnt of asked for better grandparents and are everything too us..i didnt realize how much I took after u from our gapped teeth lol too our work ethic to just who the man im becoming it all comes from you n my dad...u taught us FAMILY is everything And you and my NANA showed us what true love is..i will be happy if i become just half the man u were..im gonna miss all the good times..all the laughs we had..im gonna miss your conversations and all your great stories that you told me for hours..im gonna miss us scratching scratchers thinkinking were gonna be the next millionaires ..im gonna miss you being Santa Claus i can go on and on about you....
But most importantly im just gonna miss YOU!!

To my Tata:
There is one thing that I wish I would have told you before you left this earth and that is thank you. Thank you for taking me in and raising me as your own. Thank you for always being there for our family. Family was your number one priority. You did any and everything when it came to us. The best husband, dad, grandfather, etc. You are already extremely missed but our precious memories of you is what keeps us going. I love you so much. There will never be another man like you. We love you Tata! Love, Sierra, Carl, Jayden, and Nyah.

Pilo, you and my dad were close cousins. I got the chance to see why. You had a great sense of humor and loving and welcoming heart. You and Alice were an inspiration and loving example of what true ever lasting love was. It was an honor to witness it. The family you raised is what family is supposed to be (close). I know you and my dad are continuing to make memories of your own up in heaven while watching over us. You are loved and will greatly be missed. We love you and will always have you in our hearts!  

Pilo, we were so fortunate to grow up with so many of our cousins in Delano. There are so many memories that we shared throughout our years. We will miss your smile, generous heart, and of course, your jokes and stories.
RIP, beloved cousin. We know you are in heaven with our other family members, and probably telling them a story and livening up their days. All our love.

Uncle,  I miss your laughter, the jokes you used to play on us (especially when cutting our hair) and the funny stories you would tell. Whenever you were around I knew we were going to have fun.
You were always there to help Grandpa and Grandma, your children, grandchildren and the rest of us when needed. You set a true example of the word "Family" that we should all follow.   Love, your nephew, Michael III

Pilo... we are surely going to miss you.  We had a lot of great times together!  We have lots of wonderful memories of you and your family.  Youll always be remembered and in our hearts.

The Carrillo's, such a strong, loving family I am blessed to have married into. Thank you for being the uncle I never had. All of you are my family, too, for which I am grateful. Uncle Pilo, I will miss you, your crazy stories, your laughter and smile.

Its breaks my heart that such a great man is no longer with us. Hes was definitely one of the best male role models Ive had in my life. A man who put his family above all else and was a truly great person. Hes definitely a man that taught me what it means to love your family. I wish I could have said goodbye, but Im also glad he is at peace and no longer suffering.


who  was pete

i can see his face eating a corn tortilla in one hand and slurping his menudo in the other and just enjoying  his food  pete loved to eat and i really dont know anything he didnt like  He especially loved any thing sweet   chocolate cake with chocolate icing was the utmost favorite over all but he never refused any sweets 
His develish smile that supported a split right down the middle of his two front teeth 
made pete   when he got his new smile and he showed it to me i just wanted my
old pete back and the same smile he had split and all
his great love he had for his alice was never ending. 
You knew pete loved his alice and alice loved her Pete 
 they only knew each other as lovers and that was such an 
admirable feat to be so lucky to of had such a wonderful life together

It wasnt always laughs because they had lots of pain and sorrow but 
they always seemed to come out on top and there was that  pete just
 rubbing his head, shake it and give you that sweet smile like only pete could do  he always looked at everything positive and encouraged his children and grandchildren
that there were great things out there and to do the best that they can
 do and they knew that he would always be there for them

well pete is still with us in our mind and hearts and always will niver be forgotten

Uncle, you were always a kind, caring and loving person and you always made me laugh. I know how much you cared for my Aunt Alice, David, Adrienne, your grandkids and great grandchildren. As your niece, you also made me feel special...even though you called me PiPila for the last 48 years. I hate to admit it but that is one of the things that I will truly miss the most.  I am so glad that God allowed me and my family to have someone like you in our lives. I hope you, my Dad and Grandpa are catching up on things and are laughing til your sides hurt. Meanwhile, know that you were loved and cherished and will forever be in our hearts.  In Matthew 5:16 the bible tells us to " Let our Light shine before  others". And that's exactly what my Tio Pilo did. He was a Light for many. Tio you will be extremely missed.
