Vera Alvarez Terro was born March 8, 1930, and passed away October 6, 2026, at 96 years old. A longtime resident of Delano California. Vera will be remembered as beloved presence thoughtful in noticing what others needed, generous with her time and care for others. Gifted with a warm humor that could brighten everyone’s day. She was proudly the last Alvarez sibling to outlive her brothers and sisters.
Vera’s early years included living in Los Angeles in 1936. later moved back to Albuquerque, New Mexico before family returning to California. Shortly living in McFarland California before moving to Delano California where she would take permanent residence. Where she attended Fremont and Delano High school, leaving school to work in the field to help the family. Vera was married to George Terro though she was unable to have children of her own Vera held nieces and nephews close, loving them as her own.
Her working years reflected the same determination. Vera labored in the fields for Cartan farms and Sierra Vista and later worked as a cafeteria worker at Stanford University. Also working for short time in theater in Wasco alongside her sister and brother- in- law. In retirement years her care turned even more fully towards her family, taking care of her nephew Gerald and grandnephew. In 1990 she took on role of mother figure to her grandnephew Justin Alvarez creating a lasting bond. To many she was simply “Nina” the name everyone called her the role she filled with tenderness and pride. Her legacy is found in people she cared for. The laughter she shared. The small kindness she offered without fanfare and the love she gave so naturally.
