Victoria “Vicky” Elizabeth Herrera was born September 11, 1949, in Mexicali, Mexico to Jesus “Jesse” Barba and Magdelena Morales Barba. She was the third oldest of 12 children. She grew up in Soledad, California and attended Gonzales High School where she graduated in 1967. In 1973, she married Frank Herrera Jr. and had three sons (Frank Herrera III, Michael Herrera, and Patrick Herrera).
Vicky’s career was spent in the service of the public working for organizations including Delano Elementary School District, Delano Regional Medical Center (DRMC), and California Department of Corrections, North Kern State Prison for the last 16 years. She retired in 2022.
A devoted member of St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, she served faithfully as a Confirmation Catechist and dedicated herself to the parish community. She was equally committed to St. Mary’s School, where she worked tirelessly to ensure her three sons received a Catholic education rooted in faith and strong values. She challenged them to excel not only academically, but in all they pursued, always believing in their ability to succeed. Raising her sons was one of her greatest joys and sources of pride.
Vicky married the love of her life, Marvin Stanley in 2001 and remained married for thirteen years until his death in 2014. They loved traveling together, especially going on cruises, and road trips around California.
Vicky delighted in baking for those she loved. Her family will warmly remember the care and love she shared through every pumpkin bread loaf, chocolate chip cookies, rum cake, and holiday baking. Vicky also maintained a beautiful garden which included several rose bushes that she was proud of. She was well known as being a wonderful grandmother “Grammy” to her grandchildren, spending time with them often, bringing them along to attend Saturday Mass, and prioritizing family milestone events in their lives. She graciously accepted into her life Louie, Steven, and Cynthia Herrera who revered her as a mother figure. She also lovingly welcomed her step-granddaughters, Destiny Lugo, Breanna Lugo, and Ashley Cawaring into her heart as her own.
Vicky passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on June 28, 2026, after receiving the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick administered by Father Hermen of St. Mary’s.
