David Carter passed to his Heavenly home on Saturday, February 17, 2018. He was born on April 29, 1933 to Roy and Marguerite Carter in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He joined the National Guard at age 17, and was active Air Force Tech Sergeant Aircraft mechanic at Davis Field in Muskogee and other military/government facilities for many years including the USDA in Mission, Texas, Ardmore Oklahoma, and Enid, Oklahoma at Vance Air Force Base before receiving the call to join the US Army Corps of Engineers at the Denison Dam Power House in Denison Texas to study hydro-electricity. He assisted in setting up a Power House in Sallisaw, Oklahoma and in Lake Whitney Texas. He was called to assist with restoring power after the 1979 tornado in Wichita Falls, Texas. He spent time learning the position of Power House operator and trained some men for both position. He retired from the Corps in 1988.
He was married on February 17, 1953 to Ruth Davis in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They had two children, Debra Jean Carter (Morris) and Richard Franklin Carter. Ruth passed away on August 8, 1990 after
37 years of marriage. He then married Mary Jane Block Fleitman on July 25, 1992 and they were married for 25 years prior to Mary Jane's passing on January 28 2018. Both marriages were wonderful and he made a comment that he had lost his world twice. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic
Church.
Surviving are his children, Debra Carter Morris and husband Lynn, and Richard Carter and wife Carol. Sister, Delores Owen, special niece Margie Stephenson and husband Charles. Grandchildren, Jeremy David Morris and wife Crystal Morris, Justin Lynn Morris, Christopher Clay Hendricks, Corey David Carter, and Stephanie Hayes. One Great-Grandson: Austen Lucas Morris. He is also survived by 3 step-sons, Mike Fleitman, Don Fleitman, and Jim Fleitman, their wives, children, and grandchildren. Also, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends, including Bruce Smith.
He was predeceased by his wives, Ruth Davis Carter and Mary Jane Block Fleitman Carter, his parents,
3 brothers, Roy Carter, Jack Carter, and Alan Carter, also 3 sisters, Roma Gooch, Sammie Burnette, and Marguerite Barrios. Brothers in law: Perry Owen, Ray Burnette, and Louis Barrios. Sisters in law: Margaret Davis Vance, Hilda Carter, and Hannah Carter.
Family Night will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2018 from 6-8 pm at Bratcher Funeral Home with services to be held at the Chapel on the Hill at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, TX on Wednesday, February 21,2018 at 1:00 pm. Military Honors will follow immediately after the service.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Grandsons: Jeremy Morris, Justin Morris, Chris Hendrick, Corey Carter, and Step-sons: Mike Fleitman, Don Fleitman, and Jim Fleitman.
