Funeral services will be 10:00AM, Saturday, August 3, 2013 Georgetown Baptist Church Chapel with burial at 1:00PM in Callisburg Cemetery, Callisburg, TX where Military Honors will be performed by Ft Hood National Guard.
James was born Sunday, January 30, 1921 in Durant, OK to C.A. & Stella (Lindsey) Castleberry. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942 to 1946 and received numerous medals and awards including the Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Medal and a Purple Heart. James and his brother started the Castleberry Brothers Contractors and built many homes in and around the DFW area. He continued building after moving to Pottsboro but retired around the age of 70. He was very instrumental in forming the first Volunteer Fire Department in Pottsboro where he was a volunteer for many years. He was a lifetime member of DAV chapter #129 and VFW of Pottsboro, Charter member of the National World War II Museum, a member of the Purple Heart Chapter 612 of Sherman and of Georgetown Baptist Church in Pottsboro. James was very proud of his military career and his family. He married Thelma Mitchell on August 30, 1942.
They had two children and were married one month shy of 70 years before Thelma’s passing in 2012.
James was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma Castleberry; brothers, Herschiel Castleberry, Lyman Castleberry, Charlie Castleberry; sisters, Stella Mae White and Annabel Caves.
He is survived by his daughter Peggy Fultz and husband Tom of Rockwall, TX; son Ronnie Castleberry and wife Janine of Southlake, TX; five grandchildren, Julie Barnard, Robin Austin, Brandon Castleberry, Chris Castleberry, James Gargus; four great-grandchildren, Jack Gargus, Abby Gargus, Landree Austin and Layla Austin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Purple Heart Chapter 612, PO Box 2732, Sherman, TX 75092 or to Georgetown Baptist Church, 207 Georgetown Road, Pottsboro, TX 75076.
