Lynn was born on July 19, 1949, to Delbert and Jean Trammell in Denison, TX. He graduated from Denison High School in 1967, where he excelled academically, and was active in track and field as a pole vaulter. Lynn’s lifetime passion for the water was evident throughout his youth, as he became a local swim instructor, lifeguard, and competitive diver.
Lynn subsequently attended the University of Texas at Arlington, where he graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, returning again in 1976 to earn a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Lynn and his wife Karen were married on May 22, 1971 at First Baptist Church in Denison, TX. He went on to work for Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX, rising through the executive ranks as an Engineering Manager, which afforded him the opportunity to move his family overseas for seven years to share countless fond memories in the Philippines and Singapore.
In addition to a rewarding career at Texas Instruments, Lynn’s love of the water saw him own and operate a windsurfing company for a time called “Windsurfing Southwest,” teaching windsurfing lessons at community colleges throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and selling sailing merchandise with his wife. Lynn took up windsurfing himself, successfully participating in numerous windsurfing regattas.
Throughout his life, Lynn maintained a passion for dog training, teaching dog obedience classes and winning countless awards in obedience competitions with his beloved Samoyed, Kodiak, and, later in life, continued training his German Shepherd, Kaiser, in agility.
A 22 year survivor of non-hodgkins lymphoma, Lynn was passionate about donating to cancer research and regularly trained and competed with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (Team in Training) in local triathlon events. In addition to triathlons, Lynn successfully completed the Austin-to-Shiner 100 mile bike ride.
Lynn is survived by his wife of over 48 years, Karen Trammell of Garland, TX; his adult children and their spouses, Matthew Trammell (Shannon) of Denton, TX, Ashley Rutledge (John) of Richardson, TX, and Amber Jurcak (Matt) of Sachse, TX. He was blessed with seven beautiful grandchildren, all of whom loved their Granddad beyond measure. He is also survived by his sisters, Julia Talbott, Delia Meese, Phyllis Beets and Jodi Cryan, and their respective families.
Lynn leaves behind a legacy of family, love, and faith to his children, grandchildren, and all who knew him. He will be missed eternally. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 10:45 am, Friday, January 3rd, at Bratcher Funeral Home in Denison, TX. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Pastor Bill Ashburn will officiate.
