Reeta Rae Wright departed from this planet and entered Heaven early Friday morning January 11th. Reeta was born January 15, 1926 in Edhube, Texas to Paul R. Wright and Verna Biggerstaff Wright. She married Gerald E. Self in 1946 and later Barnie Farr in 1978.
Family visitation night is 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday Jan. 17th at Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard St. Denison, Texas 903-465-2323. Church Services at 2:00 PM Friday Jan. 18th at Park Avenue Church of Christ, 3000 South Park Avenue, Denison, Texas 75020 with Minister Todd Catteau officiating. Graveside services to follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Cemetary. Celebration of Life is at Denison Country Club at 4:00 PM. Highway 84 West Denison, Texas.
Reeta was a homemaker until graduation from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1960 as Valedictorian of her class. She completed four years of university work in three years while raising her two children and studying and homemaking when she could. She later obtained her Masters Degree in Counseling from S.O.S.U. and nearly completed her doctorate. She taught elementary school for a few years and then went into the Special Education sector of education and her last ten years were spent as Special Education Counselor and later Director of Special Education in Denison I.S.D. After retirement from forty years in Texas Public Schools she was an Alternative Certification Consultant for Region 10 Educational Center for five years. She finally retired from education at age 75.
She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ and a faithful Christian to the end. There is now another angel in Heaven. She will be sorely missed by family and friends, but now she is out of severe pain now.
Reeta was kind, caring, unselfish, sweet, gentle, intelligent, a lover of animals, and highly respected in the education field. She was once called the Will Rogers of Women because none of us never met a person who did not like Mom personally and professional.
She is survived by her two children Dr. Lee Self and husband David Shelton of Idaho and Dr. Eddie Self and wife Cheryl Hart Self of Denison, a brother Dr. Linus Wright and wife Joyce Vanston Wright. In addition she loved her granddaughter Ceresa Coulter Maki and husband Alex Maki, grandson Jeffrey Self and wife Lavetta Mitchell Self and grandson Shawn Self and wife Jennifer Franklin Self. Surviving nieces and nephews include Paula Wright, Larry Wright, Kathy Harper and Angela McGregor Frazier and daughter-in-law Kristi Farr. Great-grandchildren include Nick Self, Madison Self, Jason Brooks and Nathan Brooks, Ryan Maki, and Josh Maki.
Reeta was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Geraldine Ruth McGregor and Charlyse Roma Wakefield, husbands Gerald E. Self and Barnie B. Farr and nieces and nephews Allen McGregor, Sherry Wakefield and Bill Wakefield.
Pall bearers are Dr. Linus Wright, Larry Wright, Shawn Self, Jeff Self, Nick Self, and Dr. Eddie Self. Honorary pallbearers are David Shelton, Ceresa Coulter Maki and Dr. Lee Self.
