Ruby Nell Lummus-Bridges

Ruby Nell Southerland Lummus Bridges was born December 18, 1944, in Wellington, Texas, to Andrew and Mary Ruth (Holbert) Southerland. She attended high school in Childress, Texas. She married Roger Franklin Lummus, of Plainview, Texas, April 21, 1962, and together they raised a son and daughter, Stephen and Jamie.

Ruby and Roger eventually made their home in Amarillo, Texas. She enjoyed being involved with her children’s activities. Ruby attended Amarillo College before becoming a Patient Financial Counselor for Baptist St. Anthony Hospital of Amarillo in 1990. Roger and Ruby had many loving adventures together during their 38 years of marriage. She was a devoted caregiver to Roger as he battled cancer for many years before going Home to his Savior, June 4, 2000.

She married Michael L. Bridges of Sherman, Texas, on December 2, 2000.

Ruby was fiercely loyal to her beloved family whom she loved spending time with more than anything else. Her infectious laugh and sparkling smile brought great joy to all who knew and loved her. She enjoyed an eclectic selection of music as well as watching movies. A talented photographer, Ruby loved taking pictures of her family. Ruby was an award-winning black powder rifle and pistol sharp-shooter having won many first place ribbons. She was an avid card player. Most of all, Ruby made every person she met feel special and loved.

Ruby was preceded in death by her first husband, Roger, and her parents, Andrew and Mary Ruth. She is survived by her loving husband, Michael, her son, Stephen F. Lummus (Brenda Christophersen), her daughter, Jamie R. Webb (Frank), two sisters, Peggy Mathes of Amarillo, and Shirley Nussbaum. She also leaves behind her beautiful grandchildren: Jared, Jonah (Emma), Austin, Katie, Ryan, Alex, Aaron, Hannah, and Landon.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at the Pottsboro Church of Christ in Pottsboro, Texas, at 2 o’clock p.m. Graveside services will be performed Friday, March 29, 2019, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas, at 2 o’clock p.m
