OBITUARY

Jarrett Melvin Crowley

June 18, 1931August 27, 2018

Jarrett Melvin “Jack” Crowley passed away Monday, August 27th at the age of 87 at the VA Home at Fitzsimmons. He was a long-time resident of Aurora, CO where he decided to retire in 1973 after more than 22 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. After the Air Force Jack worked for Golf Carts, Inc. in Denver, CO and then owned Crowley’s Golf Car Service until 1998 when he retired for good. He was born on June 18, 1931 in Washington, D.C. and was the son of Jarrett Franklin “Jack” Crowley and Goldie Loraine (Jones) Crowley who resided in Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia. He had one sister, Doris Loraine (Crowley) Walker who preceded him in death.

Jack was married to Dorothy Bell (Hockensmith) Crowley for 46 years, until her untimely death in 1998. He leaves behind three children, Betty Patricia (Crowley) Norkett, Jarrett Wayne Crowley, Larry Eugene Crowley), Jarrett & Larry’s spouses (Nancy Jean (Mangus) Crowley and Tina Marie (Jones) Crowley, respectively), 7 grandchildren (Wade Norkett, Chaz Norkett, Jason Crowley, Jeff Crowley, Mike Crowley, Scott Crowley, Lisa (Crowley) Whitefield) and 13 great-grandchildren (Michael Norkett, Jack Norkett, Kian Norkett, Chaz Norkett, Jr, Chasity Norkett, Shane Norkett, LeAnn Crowley, Stefan Crowley, Hannah Crowley, Parker Crowley, Jackson Crowley, Natalie Crowley, Logan Whitefield). Jack also had one grandchild who passed away suddenly last February (Jarrett Leonard Crowley).

Just prior to his retirement from the U.S. Air Force, Jack was honored for his meritorious service as an Air Surveillance Technician at Hancock Field, New York. He received the dual honor of the Air Force Commendation Medal and a second Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a very proud lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a long-time member of the American Legion and The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA). In his last years, Jack had a caregiver who truly reflected the name of ‘caregiver’. Melody Kilpatrick was a special person who deserves special recognition for the time, energy, frustration, and most of all heart that she devoted to him every day.

The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to the Colorado State VA Home and its staff for giving Jack Crowley the care and respect that a Veteran truly deserves. We couldn’t have gotten through these last days without them and their kindness.

A Gathering of Family and Friends is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Advantage Aurora Chase Chapel, 1095 Havana St, Aurora, CO 80010, where Funeral Services begin at 12 p.m. The Interment with Honor will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery Staging Area “A”, 3698 S. To the Crowley Family,
I did not know Jack for long but we shared a few conversations over the past few years. He was once the Commander of Post 1976 and it was a honor to listen to the stories he would share concerning the Post, his buddies and the different events everyone was engaged in throughout the community. He was excited to attend the first revitalization meeting of Post 1976, in 2015. His heart and smile will always resonate within this Posts history. After a brief visit earlier this year, while honoring Jarrett Leonard’s life, Jack learned I had become the Commander of 'his' Post, he told me to "hang tough, we are a tough bunch, and stand your ground." His words have stayed with me and helped me through some transitions. As I looked through our Post history book I know Jack wanted only the best for our Veterans and their families. I am honored to have known Jack and appreciate his dedication in service to God and Country as he continued to serve America.
Jack, rest in peace brother.
American and The American Legion has lost has lost another hero!
Crowley family, on behalf of Post 1976, please accept our deepest condolences and may the peace and blessings of our Lord be with you during this time.
Post 1976 Commander Johnson

Uncle Jack (Poppy) was a great person to have as a confident and friend. He many times had just the right words to help. I'm going to miss the phone calls that we shared. We had some great times at the Club and many great meals at TREA. Test in peace Poppy.

Helping build my house. Every time I sat down to take a break, after about 10 minutes he would remind me "Boy this house ain't gonna build itself". He kept me driving forward.
