"DeDe" DeWitt Green, Jr, 83, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025. He was born to his late parents, "De" DeWitt and Daisy Green on March 14, 1942. He was a good man, a hardworking provider, a generous man, and an eccentric man. He started out as an oilfield baby, and his family moved to his grandfather's farm in Pennsylvania when he was a young boy. He learned hardworking farm skills at an early age. He joined the Navy at 17, and soon after he got out of the Navy became an oilfield worker like his dad. He ended up working for Transocean and enjoyed telling stories about how the American workers handled being taken hostage by the Nigerians. He was indeed a storyteller. He could embellish any story or fact until one never knew what was fact and what was DeDe.
He delighted in being eccentric in most everything he did, even his clothes. He was an avid reader, runner, golfer, rockhound, and fisherman as long as his health allowed. He loved words, often disagreeing with Webster's dictionary. He taught his grandkids outrageous words. He was very coordinated and won state pole vaulting in high school. As an adult, he could often be seen riding his unicycle, balancing his chair on the back legs, and balancing objects on one finger.
He loved God and was very active in the church for many years. He had a life active with friends and family. He did everything with his brother, George, and his best friend, Will. Many fishing and camping trips were had. He loved his sister Cathy dearly but did love to argue with her. He took great joy in arguing with everyone. He was the most doting grandfather ever. He could never get angry with his grandchildren who filled his life with joy. He had pet flying squirrels and a dog, Tikva, that he adored.
After a 4-wheeler accident several years ago, his personality, religious beliefs, and relationships changed. He isolated himself from everyone, except for his wife, kids, and grandkids. He was loved by his family, and in the end, he made peace with everyone.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Emily Green; daughter, Amy Conner (Steve) of Crosby, Texas; son, Stephen Green (Tonya) of Taylor, Texas; siblings, George Green (Keech) of Austin, Texas, Cathy Green Taylor (Tom) of Kansas City, Missouri; along with his grandchildren, Aidan Conner, Owen Conner, and Nate Naegele.
A Private Burial will be held at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Jennings, Louisiana.
Services entrusted to Jordan and Amanda Mothershed of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home.
