Doris Novalene Wilson, 95, of DeQuincy, passed into the arms of her Savior on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at Baylor Scott White Hospital in College Station, TX. She was born to her late parents, Ray and Edna Hodges on May 7, 1925 in Ragley, LA.
After graduation from Ragley High School, she attended Business School in Beaumont. After graduation, she was employed at Camp Polk, LA where she met the love of her life, Woody Wilson. After his discharge from the military, they made their home in DeQuincy. Novalene was a faithful member of the DeQuincy United Methodist Church for many years, where she served on the Pastor Parish Committee, Treasurer, and the Beautification Committee. She worked with Calcasieu Parish Schools as a Special Educations Aide, Perkins Pharmacy as a Bookkeeper, and was a receptionist at Dr. Lewis Bishop's office. Novalene also was an Office Manager and Bookkeeper for Hodges Sales and Service until her retirement. She was a seamstress and made her girl's dresses for many years. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club. In later years, she took up painting and taught some classes, and even traveled with her husband to many shows. The most important thing to Novalene was having family gatherings.
She is survived by her four daughters, Jane and husband, Terry Pate of Dallas, TX, Judy and husband, Bill Howard Jr. of DeQuincy, Kyra and the late Edgar Hayes of DeQuincy, Regenia and husband Marc Davenport of DeQuincy; one sister, Verna Rae Ellis; 12 grandchildren (Kevin, Cindy, Jill, Joe, Billy, Kristen, Andy, Gretchen, Sam, Cliff, Ben and Chris); 26 great grandchildren; along with 5 great great grandchildren.
Novalene is preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Harold Woodrow (Woody) Wilson; one brother, Keith Hodges, Sr; and one sister, Joyce Brown.
Services will be held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 2:00pm, with Bro. Jerry Crise officiating. Visitation will begin at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley. In lieu flowers, donations can be made to the Louisiana Methodist Children's Home in Sulphur or the DeQuincy United Methodist Church.
