Elsie "Sue" Mae (Backlund) Brantley "Aunt Sue", 93, of DeQuincy, passed away into the arms of her Savior on Friday, November 5, 2021 in Lake Charles. Elsie was born to her late parents, Onne and Mattie Guintard Backlund on October 30, 1928 in DeQuincy, LA.
Aunt Sue worked at Cleco Electric Co., where she retired after 35 years of service. She was a lifelong member of DeQuincy United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the United Methodist Women, and was a treasurer for them for 24 years. She was also a part of the Mary Emily Cooley Circle. She loved to travel on her yearly vacations to places like Gulf Shores, Holly Beach, and Galveston. She loved to work in her yard, play cards, crossword puzzles, and dominoes. Aunt Sue also enjoyed sports, and her favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves, and when they won, she had the biggest smile on her face. She also enjoyed the Texas Rangers. She loved the LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints. Aunt Sue also enjoyed watching Golf on TV.
She is survived by her nephews, David Backlund (Ginger), Michael Backlund (Evelyn), Frank Backlund (Joyce), Leslie Backlund; and her special nieces, Ronda Jacobs and Krista Lowery. She also leaves behind three special nephews, Keithon Perkins, Derek Perkins, and Brent Perkins. Also left to cherish her Aunt Sue's memory are a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. Even though Aunt Sue did not have any children, she was blessed with nieces and nephews that enriched her life. In her words, "I love all of my nieces and nephews so very much".
Aunt Sue is preceded in death by her loving husband, Isaiah Brantley; two brothers, Benny Roy Backlund, Gordon Howard Backlund; three nephews, John Backlund, Ryan Backlund, Judge Sam Lowery; and two nieces, Dana Red and Heather Backlund.
Services will be held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Monday, November 8, 2021, at 2:00pm, with Rev. James Barrett and Rev. Richard Teeter officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, beginning at 12:00pm until the time of the service.
