

Era Madge (Padgie) Ellis McFatter died at home on 05/04/2017. Born August 22, 1923, she was a native of Little Rock, Arkansas and a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She graduated from Harding University, Searcy AR, in 1944 with a B.S. degree in Home Economics. While at Harding, she paid part of her expenses by working in the print shop, operating a Linotype machine, job press, etc. Following graduation, she worked in the Little Rock Post Office followed by teaching school in Pulaski County , AR and New Orleans, LA and then obtained her M. Ed. in Human Development from the University of Maryland in 1951. She worked as a Home Demonstration Agent for 2½ years and was then Family Life Specialist with the Arkansas Coop. Extension Service for 4 years. She then taught at Pepperdine College, Los Angeles, CA for one year.
Married in 1959 to H. E. McFatter of Baton Rouge she became a homemaker and mother of two children. She remained active in numerous organizations including the Baton Rouge Music Club Chorus where she was the Librarian in the mid-seventies, and the Louisiana CowBelles, where she was president of the local chapter and then the president of the state organization in 1977. During this time, she was also an active member of PEO. She was very involved with the Goodwood Boulevard Church of Christ where she helped design the kitchen, led the Tuesday morning Ladies Bible Class for decades and taught Bible classes for children of several different ages.
She is predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Herman E. McFatter. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lynn and Steve Zimpfer of Athens, Georgia, a daughter-in-law and son, Lisa and William Edward McFatter, II, of Lake Jackson, Texas, five grandchildren, Daniel Zimpfer of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Autumn Zimpfer of Athens, Georgia, Allison, Caroline, and Samantha McFatter of Lake Jackson, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy. Visitation will be at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home in DeQuincy on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 6:00-8:00pm and will resume on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 9:30am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at McFatter Cemetery in DeQuincy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice or to Harding University, 915 E. Market Ave, Box 12238, Searcy, AR 72149, designated for the Frank and Lucille Ellis Endowed Professional Development Fund of Harding University.
