Johnny Paul Shoemake was born on April 2, 1959 in Puerto Rico. He grew up in DeQuincy, Louisiana and attended school at South Beauregard High School and graduated in 1978. Later on, he joined the Navy and served for four years in Mississippi and Washington. While he loved to travel, he always returned home to southwest Louisiana where he lived the majority of his life.
Johnny Paul was the most laid back human being you could ever hope to meet. He was quick to laugh and slow to anger. This was a man who would happily give you the shirt off his back without ever being asked.
On July 14, 2018, Johnny Paul succumbed to pancreatic cancer in his home, surrounded by his family. He is survived by Elaine Shoemake, his mother; his sister Lisa Nortman and her family of DeQuincy. His sister Misty Shoemake and her family of Austin, TX; Johnny Paul Shoemake Jr, his oldest son, and his wife Melissa and grandchildren Isabella and Xavier. Jacob Shoemake, his youngest son, and his daughter Amora Ann Marie Shoemake.
In addition to his family, Johnny Paul will be missed by countless friends and colleagues. Thankfully, he left behind a legacy of love and laughter and will be remembered with a smile by all those whose lives he touched.
