

DeQuincy – Joseph T. Mueller, 74, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 in a local hospital just 20 days after beloved wife Sharon.
Mr. Mueller was born in Streetor, Illinois, then moved to Spokane Washington with his family, where he graduated from Central Valley High School. Joe was an outstanding football player and made All City as an offensive tackle. He continued his football career at Eastern Washington University. After college, he continued his love of sports by attending Professional Umpires School in Naples, Florida. He was a lifelong coach, umpire and sports fan especially for DeQuincy High School where he watched his children and grandchildren play in every sporting event. Upon arriving in DeQuincy in 1974 he helped start the 13 & 14 year old Dixie Boys League and coached several teams to state. He also coached the American Legion Team in DeQuincy and was actively involved in coaching baseball for most of his life. One of his loves was writing the sports for the DeQuincy News for close to 20 years. He was a great Dad, Grandparent and everyone knew him as Pop.
Joe was Catholic and a member of Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church where he was a parishioner. He was also a charter member of Knights of Columbus Council #8805 and The First Grand Knight. He worked for Georgia Pacific in Lufkin, Tx before moving to DeQuincy where he worked for Boise Cascade. After the closing of Boise, he worked at Conoco until his retirement.
Survivors include his children, Chris Mueller and wife Laurie of DeQuincy, Jeff Mueller of Carlyss, John Mueller of Arlington, Tx, Shelli Mueller Richard and husband Steve of DeQuincy and Kelly Mueller Conway and husband Joe of Katy, Tx.; brother, Dan Mueller and wife Candace and sister Patricia Wardian;
Grandchildren, Jayme, Tyler, Amy, Jade, Matt, Kaci, Tayler, Cassidy and Colin; 5 great grandchildren, Carter, Grant, Harper, Marley and Grady. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Griffith Mueller; his parents, Robert V. Mueller and Frances Langan Mueller; brothers Edward Mueller and Bobby Mueller and great grandson Ryan Richard.
His funeral service will be at 2:00pm Wednesday May 7, 2014 at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church with Rev. Ed Brunnert, M.S. and Rev. Edward Richard. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 6, from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Hixson Snider Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00pm. Visitation will resume on Wednesday May 7 from 10:00am until 1:00pm. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the local Knights of Columbus, Chapter # 8805.
