Kathleen Alexander

A memorial service for Kathleen Alexander (Mrs. E. K. Alexander, Sr.) will be held at Hixson-Snider Funeral Home, 205 W. Harrison St., DeQuincy, on the afternoon of Friday the 22nd of June, 2012, beginning at 2 p.m. It will be attended by all four of her children, their spouses and other family members. All are welcome. Kathleen F. Alexander, age 85, formerly of DeQuincy, for 50 years, went peacefully Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 after a long illness. Beloved wife of the late Edward King Alexander, Sr., for 43 years. Loving mother of Don Alexander (Christina) of Miami, Fla., Maureen (Larry) Kibodeaux of Rayne, Edward King Alexander Jr. (Mary Jane) of Lake Charles, and Rosemary (Albert) Allen of Warren; dear sister of Frances Adcock of Beaumont, Texas, and James Fitzgerald of Lafayette. Mrs. Alexander was a graduate of Lafayette High School and the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now UL-Lafayette) where she received a double degree in Voice and Elementary Education. She taught in public schools at Sulphur and DeQuincy for several years and continued to substitute for many more. She served as a crew leader in the 1970 U.S. Census. A recipient of the Civic Award of the DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce, she was always an active volunteer, most recently for Extended Hands and the DeQuincy Railroad Museum. She was a stalwart and the last resident member of the historic All Saints Episcopal Church in DeQuincy. Very keen on the subjects of politics and patriotism, she was one of the area's early Republicans and served on her party's Parish and State Central Committees. She was often invited and gladly volunteered to sing the national anthem at public events throughout Calcasieu Parish well into her seventies. She is survived by her two siblings; four children; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
