Nelda (Nickie) Wall was born November 1, 1929 in DeQuincy, Louisiana to parents Luster Leones Cooper and Elma Margaret Wood Cooper. She passed into the arms of her Savior on Friday, June 5, 2026. Her fondest childhood memories were playing with sisters, Louise and Evelyn and brothers, Melvin (Buddy), Jimmy, and Charles. Nickie enjoyed skating and swimming. Nickie’s earliest ambitions were to have a good name and have a good career. She attended Elementary and High School in DeQuincy, LA. In 1949, Nickie married the love of her life, Leavell Allen Wall, Sr. Most of their married life, Leavell and Nickie lived in DeQuincy where they raised their four children.
A long time member of First Baptist Church of DeQuincy, Louisiana, Nickie served in her church on several committees, as Sunday School teacher, and G.A. leader. Nickie went on three mission trips to Honduras; twice with her grandson, J. C. Wall, and regularly delivered sermon tapes to shut-ins in later years.
In her career, Nickie served as secretary for Missouri Pacific Railroad. Later as Office Manager for Owens-Illinois Temple Inland, Nickie worked for over twenty years before her appointment with Louisiana Senator John Smith at his DeQuincy office.
Nickie was an active member of her community, where she served as President of the Contact Club, and used her culinary gifts to provide delicious meals for shut-ins. Her contributions were recognized when she was selected DeQuincy Person of the Year. Active and engaged with many interests, Nickie enjoyed traveling, reading, playing cards with friends, cooking, Broadway shows and family. Her proudest moments were seeing her children graduate and married, as well as the births of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nickie was predeceased by her parents, Luster and Elma Cooper; her sisters, Louise Glasspool and Evelyn Pinder; her brothers, Melvin (Buddy) Cooper, Jimmy Cooper, and Charles Cooper; and her beloved husband of 52 years, Leavell Allen Wall, Sr.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Kay “Debbie” (Kenny) Williams, Leavell Allen “Lebo” Wall (Kay), Jr., Jon Cooper Wall, Sr. and Janis Marie (Todd) Buck. Nickie was very proud of her nine grandchildren: Kimberly Richard (Jody), Brett Williams (Stephanie), Virginia Foxworth (Forrest), Mary Darby Guidroz (Brian), Leavell Allen Wall (Madison), III, Jon Cooper Wall (Hillary), Jr., Haley Wall, Nicole Buck, and Todd Buck, Jr; and her nine great grandchildren.
