Victor Cummings, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a cherished figure in countless lives, passed away peacefully at his home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on the morning of August 6th, surrounded by his adoring family. He was born on December 24, 1937, in Waukegan, Illinois, and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, kindness, and unwavering compassion.
Victor was a man of many passions and talents. His love for fishing took him to tranquil waters, where he found solace and joy in the rhythm of the waves. A true jokester at heart, Victor's infectious laughter could light up any room. He had an uncanny ability to weave humor into every conversation, ensuring that a smile graced the faces of those around him. His penchant for sharing a well-timed joke, even in the most unexpected moments, endeared him to everyone he encountered.
Victor's truest and deepest bond was with his beloved wife, Lara Cummings. Their extraordinary partnership spanned over 37 magical years, characterized by an unbreakable bond and an unwavering love that served as a guiding light to all who knew them. Victor and Lara's home was always open to those in need, it was a haven of support and positivity for anyone seeking a friendly hand. Together, they created a life that exemplified the meaning of devotion.
Victor was a descendent of the Kruger / Marquardt / Steil families that arrived in the 1800's and helped shape the areas of Ela Township. Currently the Ela Library is hosting a display devoted to the family history prepared in collaboration with Ela Historical Society. A devoted Lutheran, Victor considered St. Matthew Lutheran Church (Hawthorn Woods) and Immanuel Lutheran Church (Des Plaines) his forever homes.
Victor's legacy extends through his two children, Rina and Boris, his treasured grandchildren, and through the numerous children he opened his house to. He was an integral member of the non-profit - Pegasus Children’s Airlift that brought orphans from the ex-Soviet Union to America for medical procedures - many of whom were adopted by their foster parents in the Ela area.
