Carri Louise Perry, 54, of DeWitt, passed away November 5, 2017. She was born in Royal Oak, MI on August 14, 1963 to Joseph and Miriam Furci. She worked for a number of years as a recreational therapist at Southfield’s Providence Hospital, Hope Network, and Burcham Hills.
As a mom, Carri was very supportive of her sons’ activities, especially Connor with Special Olympics and Joseph and his pursuit of fishing. An animal lover for her whole life, Carri had a succession of black dogs, starting with Angie, on through Cinders and finishing with Bella. She helped raise several bunnies with her boys and made a home for Tootsie the cat, who showed up on her doorstep one Christmas Eve. As the mom of an adopted special needs child, she would become an effective advocate for change and worked to teach her neighbors in her kind and gentle manner to embrace the young people she strongly believed made up an important part of her community.
Carri enjoyed traveling with her family, especially to northern Michigan, and loved the area around Petosky, as well as the Les Cheneaux Islands in the Upper Peninsula. She made not only a home for her two adopted boys, but each summer would lead them to the far corners of her home state and instilled in them a love for the lakes, rivers, forests, cities and wildlife of Michigan that would come to equal her own.
Carri was predeceased by her parents. Surviving to cherish her memory is husband, John; sons, Connor and Joseph; sisters, Terry and Gayle; several nieces, nephews, and numerous friends.
Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. November 8, 2017 at St. Mary Cathedral, 219 Seymour, Lansing, MI with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carri may be made to Capital Area Humane Society, Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and Area 28 Special Olympics.
