Dale was a great athlete; he was personally invited to play football by Coach Paul Brown at Ohio State university, but declined because he felt he was needed to help his folks on the farm… He proudly remembered scoring more points personally in one game than the entire other team did in high school.
Dale served in the Merchant Marines in WWII as Morse code operator. Until recently, you could see him occasionally tap, tap, tapping his fingers on his leg in Morse code….
He worked for GE corporation where his final position was Regional Manager of Portable Radio Dept. He retired at age 59. Dale was an avid golfer and bowler up until the last few years. Weekly golf outings when son Dale grew up were the times he dearly loved. He also enjoyed many years of fun golfing with his “10 cent league” buddies in the K of C leagues too. Dale was on a bowling league until age 99! He even had a high game then of 224! Dale took great pride and joy in taking care of his yard. His lawn and landscaping always looked amazing.
Dale understandably, is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Armeda Miller; his siblings, Vera, Glenn, Leona, and Red.
Dale is survived by his son, Dale Miller Jr., (Wendi); granddaughter, Jamie Torrez (Louie); grandson, Dale Alan Miller (Maribel); great-grandchildren, Brendan DeNeen, Noah DeNeen, Eliana Torrez, and Dale “Ace” Miller… as well as his cherished sister, Peg Snyder. Dale was very proud that three more generations chose to carry on his name. He loved having pics taken of “the 4 Dales."
Dale will be remembered for how much he “liked to kid” as he would say, and he loved to hear a good joke. He loved spending time with family and friends. For the past 13 years he enjoyed daily lunches with Dale Jr. at Bob Evans. He looked forward to the special attention and hugs the waitresses showered him with... We are very grateful to them, and to Caroline, Sophie, & for their visits these last months…
Dale shared quite often in the last year that he’d had a good life, had lived long enough, and was ready to go to “Joy Land” as he referred to heaven…
The staff at Gunnisonville Meadows were wonderful with Dale. Special thanks to Heather for her attentive and loving care. We appreciated the care provided by U of M Sparrow Hospice as well these past months, Amanda has been amazing.
Dale will be fondly remembered and missed… we take comfort knowing he was greeted on the other side by many loved ones who have been waiting for him to join them. Save a place for us Dad… we love you.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2026, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes DeWitt Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the Catholic Community of St. Jude in DeWitt with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service.
