Dawn Isabella Summers, 94, passed away, December 15, 2025, at Lansing, Michigan. She was born on October 25, 1931, in Riley Township, St. Clair County, Michigan, to Carl H. and Mabel A (Sumner) Hulett.
Dawn was a graduate of Armada High School and Jackson College. She married Rev. Verne C. Summers on July 15, 1950, and they enjoyed 70 years of marriage together before his passing on December 7, 2020. Dawn was a United Methodist pastor's wife, mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother, who also worked as a nurse in Jackson and Charlotte. While living in Elk Rapids and Jackson, she was a foster mother to children needing a loving temporary home.
After Verne's retirement from full-time ministry, he and Dawn moved to DeWitt, Michigan, where they lived until settling in Independence Village in Grand Ledge in 2018.
She is survived by children Wayne and wife Linda (O'Connor) Summers of DeWitt, Michigan; Paul and wife Alma (Grit) Summers, of Zeeland, Michigan; and Brenda Summers and wife Jeanette Hoyer of Norton Shores, Michigan.
Dawn was the grandmother of Eric Summers, Michelle (Chris) Brower, Jonathan (Suzanne) Summers, Tyler Summers, Laurie Summers, Timothy (Christina) Summers, and Azeezah Ford. She was a great-grandmother of eleven and a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews. Dawn was in addition an honorary mother of Bobbi and Charles Kemp, and honorary grandmother of Jonathon Keaton, Gail (Kemp) Collins, Charles Kemp Jr., and Dawn Kemp- Palacios.
Dawn is also survived by her brothers Rev. Dwayne (Naomi) Hulett and Elwyn (Cynthia) Hulett and sisters Evelyn (Rev. Glenn) Wegner and Linda (David) Williaume. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Marvin Hulett and Rev. James Hulett and sisters Marion Boyd, Wilma Faust, and Joyce Gutchess.
During her life Dawn loved spending time with family, camping, and traveling, with special memories of mission trips to Liberia and Kenya. She had a love of people and an infectious smile that greeted everyone she met.
Her life embodied these verses from I Corinthians 13:4-7. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoice with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preservers.
The Celebration of Dawn's life will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 12pm, with a visitation from 11am until the time of service at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, DeWitt Chapel, 205 E. Washington Street, DeWitt, MI 48820.
Interment will be held at Gunnisonville Cemetery, DeWitt Township.
