Dennis Wyman Schwartz, age 72, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 8th, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 29, 1948 in Almont, Michigan to Ralph and Geraldine (Kegley) Schwartz. He grew up in Capac, Michigan and graduated from Capac High School in 1966.

Dennis graduated from Michigan State University in 1972 with a bachelor of arts in marketing degree. He was employed by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority for 32 years before retiring in 2002. Dennis met the love of his life, Linda, at work and they were married on August 23, 1975.

Dennis loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed being anywhere outdoors. He especially enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Rainy Lake. He was an avid MSU Spartans fan and loved watching their sporting events. Dennis dearly loved his granddaughters and spent as much time as he could with them. He had a zest for life and went out of his way to help anyone in need. He was a jokester and loved making people laugh. Dennis especially enjoyed volunteering at Sparrow Hospice House and delivering Meals on Wheels.

Dennis loved the Lord and was a member of South Church in Lansing, Michigan. He especially enjoyed ushering and welcoming people to the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ronald Schwartz. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Linda; daughters, Lindsay Schwartz and Lisa (Brian) Woodward; Granddaughters Kinsley and Kennedy Woodward; sister, Patricia Robbins and brother, Gerald (Ruth) Schwartz; several nieces and nephews, and his beloved bulldog, Axl.

The family would like to thank the staff at First Light Home Care and Heart to Heart Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

A Celebration of Life for Dennis will be held Friday March 19, 2021 at South Church, 5250 Cornerstone Dr, Lansing MI, 48917 starting at 11 am with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Linda, we are so sorry to learn of your loss. Even though you haven’t lived in Wildflower Meadows for a long time, we always enjoyed talking with Dennis when he was outside when we walked by. He was such a nice man.

Our family gatherings were always delightful events, especially when we were kids. Dennis was usually at the center of the mischief and merry making. He was fun and funny. He grew into a good man. He, his laughter, and his smile will all be missed.

I met Dennis almost four years ago at the YMCA in the Livestrong Program. I thought he was such a loving, funny and kind human being who also helped workouts go much faster. I love Dennis and Linda like family, we became close. They supported me by coming to my benefit yard sales and helped in many ways. I loved Axel too. I will always remember our lunches, our workouts, our laughs and that smile. I love you both always and forever. See you on the other side Dennis. Love, Michele Dixon

Linda, I am so sorry to hear this. Dennis meant a great deal to me - he was my first "real" supervisor, and an excellent one. I think I can say this now - in 1997, when the Detroit Red Wings finally won the Stanley Cup. Dennis and I had a meeting in Detroit (I don't know - maybe we did - meet with Gary or something) so we drove down, had lunch and watched the Red Wings Stanley Cup parade. To this day, one of the high points of my professional career. I considered Dennis a valued friend. I'm sorry we can't see you this week - if it weren't for COVID, we'd rent a car and visit, it would be lovely to see you and the old MSHDA staff. Please know I am thinking of you and wish you the best.

What a funny and friendly guy!!! I worked with Dennis for many years and always appreciated his wry comments and insightful perspective. We shared a lot of history, as we’re both from the “Thumb”, are loyal Spartans, and share the same anniversary. So sorry for your loss, Linda. He will be greatly missed.

Condolences to Dennis's family and friends.

Dennis and I enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips. We tromped farm land and woods for several decades and we both enjoyed deer partying with Bob Brown.

These fond memories will not be forgotten.
