Donald Gath, age 82, passed away on August 3, in DeWitt, Michigan. Don was born on December 22, 1935 on a farm near Merrill, Michigan, to Walter and Emma Gath. He attended a one-room country school just a half mile from home and then attended Merrill High School. Shortly after graduation, Don served his country for four years in the U.S. Air Force. Don was a factory worker in Owosso and also helped his father on the family farm for many years. Don’s greatest enjoyment was when he was entertaining others while playing his guitar and singing his favorite country songs. Don and his beloved companion of nearly 20 years, Barbara Scott, used to love dancing to country music and to polkas. They also enjoyed fishing, often with Don’s nephew and niece, Dennis and Sherry Milledge. Barb preceded Don in death in October of last year. Don was also preceded in death by his brother Harold Gath and his sister Carolyn Gath. Don will be greatly missed by his two sisters, Adelia Milledge and Darlene (Cris) Doil, and many nieces and nephews. Don was very close to Barb’s family and will be greatly missed by Russ and Jamie Scott and their three sons Austin, Ransom and Spencer. Special thanks to the staff at Whispering River for their compassionate care of Don and for always keeping Don's favorite Johnny Cash music playing. Funeral services will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 with visitation one hour prior at Gorsline Runciman DeWitt Chapel, 205 E Washington St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
