Duane Marvin Hellum

Duane M. Hellum, proud husband, Dad (“Pop”) and Grandpa was born September 17, 1929, the son of Norwegian parents, Knute R. and Sylvia Christianson Hellum and passed away July 19, 2013. He served 31 years with the Lansing Fire Department, retiring as Captain with lasting friendships. Duane graduated from Lansing Eastern H. S. where he met his wife Jean. Their many years together were filled with loving family and friends. He enjoyed his family gatherings, fall bow season and summers on the lake. Duane is survived by his loving family; wife, Jean and their children, Michael (Kathleen) Hellum, Kathie Hellum-Towns (Jeremy Wagner), Mark (Pam) Hellum, and Kristin Hellum-Staron (Matt). Beloved Grandpa to Melinda Towns, Melissa Towns-Bajak (Val), Aren and Megan Hellum, Bethany (Stephen) Nixon and Jenni Hellum; and special Nieces and Nephews. Predeceased brothers-in-law, Arthur (Norma), Phil (Leah) Hazelton, Sister-in-law, Margaret (Nile) McClintic. A memorial celebration of his life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, DeWitt Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
