Evelyn Ilene Coon age 93 of DeWitt Michigan passed away Jan. 12, 2020. Evelyn retired from the State of Michigan Veterans Affairs where she provided executive support which was in keeping with her general giving and caring nature. That same giving nature also played out for Evelyn was a loving mother and homemaker for many years. Evelyn found much pleasure in her flower gardens and maintained vegetable gardens over the years providing fresh food of all kinds to her family and friends. The caring side of Evelyn always shown bright as she cared for her parents, her husband, and her eldest daughter during those times when care and caring were so essential, and she did it with joy and love.
Evelyn also enjoyed nature participating in camping, cross-country skiing, bird watching, hiking and just generally being outdoors. One of her greatest loves was music and the house was often filled with music with Evelyn singing and whistling. Her love, gentle spirit, caring and giving nature, kindness and sweetness will live on in the hearts of the many lives she touched and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Quentin and daughter, Gail; brother Herbert Whitaker and sister Audrey (Whitaker) Holley. Surviving are brother George Whitaker; her children, Quentin Everett Coon, Jr. (Laura), Stuart Dean Coon (Cindy) and Ilene Elizabeth Coon (Colleen); grandchildren, Ryan Coon (Christine), Elizabeth Tucker (Logan); Benjamin Coon, Jeremiah Coon; great-grandchildren, Graham, Davis, Asher.
A visitation will be held on Sun., Jan.19 from 3-5pm with funeral services on Mon. Jan. 20 at noon with a one hour prior visitation before the service. Both the visitation and funeral services will be held at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt MI.
